The monitoring circuit has a current transformer connected to the power line to be measured, two secondary variable monitoring circuits for measuring the actual current value of the motor, and actual value analyzers for controlling the monitoring circuits. A novel reed switch element and method of fabricating the same comprises a ferrous alloy reed which is positioned in a glass envelope. The reed element is characterized by a layer of substantially pure titanium or chromium applied on that portion of the reed element which is in registration with the seal region of the glass envelope. Reed switch elements fabricated in this fashion display substantially improved glass-to-metal seal strength.

A protective casing (42) is fixed on the body so as to contain the switches. The contact-studs (30, 31, 32, 33) of the switches (36) essentially have a base of cuprous materials while a non-oxidizing atmosphere is confined and maintained beneath the protective casing (42) by seals (55, 23, 47). The seals are placed on the one hand between the moving armature (15) and a first face (21) of the body (2) and on the other hand between the casing (42) and a second face (41) of the body which is opposite to the first face.

An insulating plate, suitably guided at its edges in the insulating envelope of the apparatus, receives the downward displacement that a coil applies by the Thomson effect to an aluminum disc, and it lowers the contacts against spring and latches them in open position by engagement of a bolt in a notch. The lower edge of the plate is provided with teeth to receive the successive contacts and retain them transversely, while each of the mobile contacts is notched to ensure lengthwise retention.

A contactor assembly is disclosed comprising a case having a plurality of serially and vertically sectioned pole chambers, each provided with a traveling contact and a pair of operation frames. A traveling contact bar having right and left arm portion is pivotally fixed on a support frame. The operation frames are installed at right and left positions of the traveling contact, and each frame is provided with a window and a leg portion extending from a lower surface of the frame. A pair of upper and lower contact springs are provided in the window, and the adjacent arm portion of the traveling contact extends through the window and is sandwiched by the pair of contact springs. The pair of right and left operation frames are interlockingly connected at the lower ends of both the legs. An electromagnet is connected to each leg and a return spring is provided on the lower surface of the frame. At least one traveling contact terminal is provided at each tip of the arm portions of the traveling contact bar, and a stationary contact terminal is provided in the path of the traveling contact terminals. At least one connecting terminal is provided at each side of the pole chamber.

A miniature latching thermomagnetic relay is disclosed which offers high contact forces, small size, and low cost. Ferromagnetic material is placed upon heaters in a low thermal conductivity substrate. A permanent magnet beneath the substrate attracts a moving element above the substrate. Contact points on the substrate and the moving element from electrical connections.A control signal causes a heater to warm the ferromagnetic material, changing the saturation flux density of the material. This results in an unbalanced force on the moving element, causing it to rock about a pivot point to open or close connections as desired. Planar fabrication techniques may be used to construct the relay.
