Pilot patterns for downlink and uplink transmission between a base station and one or more wireless terminals for three transmit antenna transmitters are also provided. Variable rate codes are provided that combine various fixed rate codes in a manner that results in codes whose rates are dependent on all the various fixed rate codes that are combined.

Examples disclosed herein provide systems, methods, and software for application dedicated transceivers. In one example, a method for operating a wireless device includes, in a device application, initiating a request for a dedicated-transceiver. In response to the request, the method further includes, in the device operating system, requesting dedicated-transceiver information from a transceiver system on the device and, once the information is received from the transceiver system, transferring a dedicated-transceiver response to the application. The method also provides, in the device application, initiating a communication handshake with the transceiver system and, upon completion of the handshake, communicating application data to the transceiver system without the use of the operating system.

The system comprises a single transmission line for connecting a first part of the RF system and a second part of the RF system, the single transmission line transfers a multiplexed signal between the first part and second part, wherein the multiplexed signal includes intermediate frequency (IF) signal, a local oscillator (LO) signal, a control signal, and a power signal; the first part includes a baseband module and a chip-to-line interface module for interfacing between the baseband module and the single transmission line; and the second part includes a RF module and a line-to-chip interface module for interfacing between the RF module and the single transmission line, wherein the first part and the second part are located away from each other.
