摘要： An apparatus for cleaning and then drying batches of hard disk substrates includes a substrate cleaning station and a substrate drying station. The substrate cleaning station includes a first index table supporting thereon at least three circumferentially spaced first substrate carriers on which hard disk substrates are mounted respectively. The substrate drying station includes a second index table disposed rearward of the first index table and supporting thereon at least three circumferentially spaced second substrate carriers on which cleaned hard disk substrates are mounted, respectively. Upon rotation of the first index table, each of the first substrate carriers moves successively through a substrate mounting position, a substrate cleaning position and a substrate removing position. Likewise, upon rotation of the second index table, each of the second substrate carriers moves through a substrate mounting position, a substrate drying position and a substrate removing position. Thus, a series of hard disk substrates suppled to the substrate cleaning station are cleaned at the substrate cleaning station, and after that the dried substrates are removed in succession from the substrate drying station.

摘要： The back edge of a disk drive slider is used to remove debris from disk media by slowly sweeping it from the inner diameter of the disk to the outer diameter of the disk while the disk is rotating backwards from normal. The sweeping operation is completed while the disks are still gaining rotational speed so that liftoff velocity is not achieved. Material accumulated on the back edge of the slider is either dumped at the outer diameter of the disk, or remains on the back edge of the slider as normal operation is commenced.

摘要： A method and system detect and remove particles from a tape. Debris on a tape can cause errors. Location of the tape is continuously monitored, and when an error is detected during a data transfer operation, the tape is moved and re-positioned to rewrite a data block where the error was detected. If the error is not corrected, a minimum threshold requirement is decreased so the system detects the data block as corrected thereby avoiding system hang-ups or the like.

摘要： A nonwoven liner for a diskette cartridge is made of hydroentangled fibers and impregnated with a small amount of binder which is uniformly distributed throughout the fabric. The binder comprises no more than 5% by weight and preferably between 1.5-3.0% by weight of the fabric. The low concentration of binder ensures that the liner surface does not become totally coated with plastic film that reduces cleaning ability, while also providing improvements in tensile strength and debris reduction. The binder solution preferably has a high surface tension (low surfactant level), so that the binder becomes concentrated at the junction points of the fibers throughout the fabric. The low level of surfactant ensures a low risk of chemical attack of the disk media surface. The hydroentangled fabric cleans the disk media more efficiently, has less fiber debris, contains less environmental contaminants, is substantially loftier, and is cut with cleaner edges than standard thermally bonded diskette liners.

摘要： Deteriorated or aged magnetic recording media exhibiting undesirable properties such as shed, stickiness or squeal are restored to playable condition having no such objectionable properties by heating the media to an elevated temperature and for lengths of time sufficient to restore the media. A typical temperature used is 54.degree. C. and a typical effective time is 16 hours. Ambient humidity is suitable. The restored media can be used to transfer data or information to new media. Restored media can also be again heat treated for restoration purposes, if it deteriorates again.

摘要： A cleaner unit is provided for applying a liquid cleaning solution onto the surface of an information disk, such as a so-called compact laser disk or the like. The cleaner unit includes a housing with a rotatable spindle (22) adapted to support the information disk in a generally horizontal orientation, in combination with a circulation system having a rotatable pump impeller (24) for spraying a jet of a cleaning solution onto the underside of the disk (12) near the spindle. A drive motor is operated by a control circuit for initially rotating the spindle and impeller in a first direction for spraying the cleaning solution against the spinning disk, with the rotational disk movement causing the cleaning solution to spread radially outwardly as a film over the underside disk surface. The cleaning solution is thrown from the disk periphery and is captured by an outer contoured deflector shroud (99) for recirculation to the pump impeller. At the conclusion of a short cleaning cycle, the control circuit reverses the direction of spindle and impeller rotation to spin the disk in an opposite or second direction for the duration of a short dry cycle, without applying cleaning solution to the disk.

摘要： Apparatus providing improved RFI/EMI shielding includes a base of conductive material, such as cast or forged aluminum alloy, the base defining a substantially continuous floor and integrally formed base sidewalls extending upwardly from the floor along the periphery thereof. The base sidewalls define an inset-stepped region above an upper outer peripheral ledge extending around the periphery of the base sidewalls. A plurality of closely spaced apart, knife-blade protrusions formed along the edge extend upwardly from the ledge and angle inwardly toward the base sidewalls within the inset-stepped region. A cover, substantially congruent with the base defines a ceiling and integral cover sidewalls extending downwardly to fit closely over the inset-stepped region so as to come into engagement with the knife-blade protrusions. A clamping arrangement, such as plural spaced apart screws passing through peripheral openings of the cover and entering threaded bores in the base for example, cause the cover securely to clamp down over the base such that facing portions of the cover are deformed over the knife-blade protrusions of the base, thereby establishing very low impedance, closely spaced apart contacts along the gap between the cover and base, for grounding out RFI/EMI.
