Abstract:
A method of remediating a media asset comprising a magnetic tape includes preliminarily cleaning the media asset, treating the media asset, and finally cleaning the media asset. Treating the media asset includes baking the media asset, determining whether adjacent layers of the tape are stuck to each other, and re-baking the media asset. If adjacent layers of the tape are stuck to each other, the method includes submerging the magnetic tape in a cleaning bath for a predetermined period of time, unwinding the magnetic tape from a supply reel to a take-up reel at an unwind speed while drying the magnetic tape, and rewinding the magnetic tape onto the supply reel at a rewind speed before re-baking the media asset.
Abstract:
A tape cartridge library that is equipped with a cleaning device is described. The tape cartridge library essentially includes a plurality of tape cartridges each possessing recording tape media. A plurality of tape drives that read and write data to and from each of the tape cartridges. A tape cleaning drive incapable of transferring data to and from the recording tape media which is independent of the tape drives, the tape cleaning drive disposed entirely within the tape cartridge library. The tape cleaning drive automatically receives one of the tape cartridges and cleans its respective recording tape medium when a predetermined reason for cleaning the tape cartridge is justified.

Abstract:
A recording medium cartridge includes: a recording medium that is a magnetic tape recording information; a reel body including a central shaft that takes up the recording medium and two frame plates that sandwich the taken up recording medium and face each other in a direction along the central shaft; a communication section performing communications wirelessly; and a destruction mechanism that destroys, in response to reception of a predetermined wireless signal in the communication section, the recording medium at least to the extent that reading of information by a reading device reading information from the recording medium is impossible. The destruction mechanism includes: a heating element attached to at least one of the two frame plates and supplied with electric power to generate heat, and an electric power supply section supplying electric power to the heating element in response to the reception of the wireless signal in the communication section.
Abstract:
Techniques are described for reselling and/or refurbishing data tape media. The techniques may involve determining life information associated with a data tape medium and reselling the data tape medium when a remaining life of the data tape medium is larger than a pre-defined threshold. In this manner, the quality of resold magnetic tape can be improved, and the media can possibly marketed or warranted to the buyer based on the remaining life. In addition, refurbishing techniques are described that include degaussing of servo written data tape media, followed by the creation of new servo patterns on the degaussed media.
Abstract:
A tape cleaner with a cleaning tape to wipe out dirt adhered to a surface of a tape is composed to wipe out the dirt adhered to the surface of the tape by pressing said cleaning tape on a surface of a running tape, and the cleaning tape is composed so that a weft made of an ultra fine fiber is exposed more outside than a warp and the weft is vertically arranged for a running direction of the tape.
Abstract:
In manufacturing a magnetic tape, a long web of non-magnetic base material is coated with a magnetic layer and, thereafter, subjected to a smoothing process, wherein the surface of the magnetic layer is abraded, ground, and then wiped out. For grinding, sapphire blades are kept in contact with the surface of the magnetic layer with their edges oriented in a transverse direction to the magnetic tape, and are moved back and forth in the transverse direction to the magnetic tape, while the magnetic tape is being conveyed in a lengthwise direction of the magnetic tape. Of the sapphire blades, adjacent two are moved in opposite directions to each other.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a photographic processing apparatus including a construction for cleaning a magnetic recording portion of a photographic film having such magnetic recording portion. The apparatus includes a transporting mechanism for transporting the film along a film transport passage, a magnetic head for recording magnetic information recorded in the magnetic recording portion, and a stationary head disposed upstream in the film transport passage for cleaning the magnetic recording portion of the film.
Abstract:
A head drum is coated with double films, each having different characteristics, by forming a first diamond-like hard carbon film of high degree of hardness and then forming a second diamond-like hard carbon film of a lower degree of hardness thereon. The degree of hardness of the second film is lower than that of the first film. The double coating is performed by means of a synthesizing apparatus which comprises a reactor consisting of a power supply electrode, a workpiece support and an annular ground electrode spaced from the stacked head drums by a predetermined distance.
