Abstract:
An adaptive braking system for an automotive vehicle is disclosed which permits the proportioning unit valve commonly used in vehicle braking systems to also function as the adaptive braking modulator. The device provides a fluid motor which engages the proportioning piston and urges the latter into sealing engagement with the poppet member to prevent fluid communication to the brakes of the vehicle when an adaptive braking cycle has initiated. Thereafter, the fluid motor continues to urge the proportioning piston in a direction enlargening the outlet chamber of the proportioning valve, to thereby reduce the fluid pressure level communicated to the vehicle brakes. An electrically actuated solenoid valve is responsive to an output signal from an electronic control unit when an adaptive braking cycle is initiated to communicate fluid pressure to the fluid motor for operating the latter.
Abstract:
The strain relief clamp designed for use on general purpose multi-pin electrical connector assemblies to the plug or receptacle of the assembly and extending therefrom to terminate in a keeper element which includes apertures to facilitate retention of a band or tie string that secures to the clamp all the wires extending from the connector. The bundle of wires extending from the connector is thereby gripped in a firm and immovable position so that all axial and radial movement of the wires which might occur in operation is prevented from being transmitted to the point of connection of the several wires with the connector contacts. One or more apertures in the keeper element makes it possible to secure many or as few as one wire extending from the connector in the aforementioned manner to prevent breaking the connection point of a wire to a contact.
Abstract:
A rapid fluid analyzer for determining the percentage of a first fluid in a fluid mixture. A portion of the first fluid which is supplied to a mixing chamber is bled to a first chamber. The first fluid is also blended with a second fluid in the mixing chamber to form a fluid mixture. This fluid mixture is communicated to a storage chamber. A portion of the fluid mixture is bled to a second chamber. An identical energy wave is dispatched through the first fluid and the fluid mixture. A first receiver in the first chamber accepts the energy wave that passes through the first fluid. A second receiver in the second chamber accepts the energy wave that passes through the fluid mixture. The first receiver communicates a reference signal indicative of the accepted energy wave in the first fluid to an electronic detector. The second receiver likewise communicates a corresponding signal indicative of the accepted energy wave in the fluid mixture to the electronic detector. The electronic detector compares the corresponding signal with the reference signal to determine if a phase differential exists therebetween. The phase differential which is directly proportional to the percentage of the first fluid in the fluid mixture will permit instant monitoring by the analyzer.
Abstract:
A flexible coupling for transmitting torque from an axially movable rotary driving member to a coaxially arranged rotary driven member. The coupling has an inner ring, an outer ring, and a plurality of generally S-shaped interconnecting resilient arms which permit axial flexibility while simultaneously providing reasonably stiff bi-directional torque transmission. The S-shaped arms automatically compensate for any radial lengthening of the coupling that occurs when the driving member moves axially relative to the driven member during torque transmission.
Abstract:
A permanent magnet torquer-eddy current damper for a gyro includes a copper cylinder supported for rotating with the gyro inner gimbal and a coil assembly mounted on the cylinder. The cylinder is disposed in the magnetic field and relative motion between the field and cylinder is damped to induce currents while torquing is provided through current in the coil assembly. Temperature compensating means are provided for damping and torquing stability.

A stacked washer multi-stage impaction and centrifugal separation filtering apparatus with a filter element composed of flat washers having a channel system formed thereon utilizing particle collection pockets to remove and store contaminants. The purpose of the foregoing abstract is to enable the Patent Office and the public generally, and especially the scientists, engineers or practitioners in the art who are not familiar with patent or legal terms or phraseology, to determine quickly from a cursory inspection the nature and essence of the technical disclosure of the application. The abstract is neither intended to define the invention of the application, which is measured by claims, nor is it intended to be limiting as to the scope of the invention in any way.
Abstract:
A steering control arrangement for powered in-tandem vehicles, in which a powered vehicle trails a leading powered vehicle connected thereto by a linkage, the arrangement comprising an angle sensor at the connecting linkage sensing the angle between the vehicles created by steering of the lead vehicle or by deviations of the trailing vehicle due to roadway variations or other causes, and means for controlling the power to individual wheels of the trailed vehicle so as to create a steering-bydriving thereof in accordance with the sensed angle so that the trailed vehicle is steered so as to tend to eliminate the angle therebetween and follow the lead vehicle. In the embodiment disclosed, the angle existing at the linkage controls a valve which distributes flow from a pump to drive individual fluid motors on the trailed vehicle in accordance with the sensed angle to steer-by-drive the trailed vehicle to track the lead vehicle.
Abstract:
A brushless motor is driven by a transistorized bridge and commutated by an arrangement of Hall generators. The motor is controlled in torque generating and constant speed modes. Pulse width modulation is applied to control the amplitude of the motor voltage and regenerative braking is applied.
Abstract:
A laminated tie bar or coupling particularly adapted to interconnect a helicopter rotor arm and rotor blade is provided with a pair of spaced-apart end bushings interconnected by an endless belt. A pair of annular clips encircle the belt adjacent the bushings to draw opposite sides of the belt into parallel alignment. Each clip abuts an associated transverse bar or pin extending between the belt sides and attached to an adjacent end bushing by a layer of flexible strands or wires wound around the end bushing and bar or pin. The bars or pins hold the clips apart and permit twisting of the coupling about an axis extending through the end bushings.
Abstract:
A fast time constant circuit includes a delay line which receives video radar returns. Two delay line time spaced taps are connected through an AND gate to an integrator, the output of which is applied to one input of a differential amplifier. An intermediate delay line tap is connected directly to the second differential amplifier input. The filtered video radar returns appear at the output of the differential amplifier.
