Abstract: Provided herein are plants that reduce growth of a fungal pathogen, increase resistance of the plant to a fungal pathogen, or a combination thereof. The plant includes a polynucleotide that reduces expression of a coding region present in a fungal pathogen, such as Sclerotinia sclerotiorum or Botrytis cinerea. The polynucleotide can be present on the surface of the plant, expressed by a plant, or a combination thereof. Also provided are methods of making and methods of using the plants.

Abstract: A new tri-electrode topology reduces the control voltage requirement for electrostatic actuators. Conventional parallel plate actuators are dual-electrode systems, formed by the MEMS structure and the drive electrode. By placing a perforated intermediate electrode between these elements, a tri-electrode configuration is formed. This topology enables a low voltage on the intermediate electrode to modulate the electrostatic force of the higher voltage drive electrode, whose voltage remains fixed. Results presented show that in comparison to conventional parallel plate electrostatic actuators, the intermediate electrode's modulating voltage can be as low as 20% of normal, while still providing the full actuation stroke.

Abstract: A solid state sensor may be used to down-convert microwave signal into a low-frequency voltage or current signal, where its phase still carries the information of a measured continuous wave (CW) microwave phase. Two CW microwaves may be mixed and a solid state sensor used to rectify the mixed microwave into a direct voltage or current signal. The measurement system may include an input node for receiving a microwave signal from a source from which the output microwave is coherently split into two parts by a microwave power divider. Each part may travel in a separate path and couple at the solid state sensor. A lock-in amplifier coupled to the solid state sensor may be used to determine simultaneously a magnitude and phase of the microwave signals received from the microwave source.

Abstract: A tomography accessory device for supporting a sample relative to the imaging assembly of a microscope has an electric positioning motor supported on the existing sample supporting stage of the microscope. An output shaft of the positioning motor is supported for rotation about an output axis parallel to a plane of the stage and a controller acts to control the motor so as to rotate the output shaft between a plurality of different angular positions about the output axis. An adjustable assembly supports a sample holder relative to the outer shaft such that i) the sample holder is translatable relative to the output shaft along at least one translation axis oriented generally perpendicularly to the output axis, and ii) the sample holder is pivotable relative to the output shaft about at least two pivot axes which are transverse to one another and which are generally perpendicular to the output axis.
