摘要: A method for the treatment of a stenosis or an occlusion in a blood vessel is disclosed in which a main catheter is first delivered to a site proximal to the occlusion. The main catheter may include an occlusive device at its distal end. An inner catheter or elongate member (e.g., a guidewire) having an occlusive device at its distal end is delivered to the site of the occlusion, and the occlusive device is activated at a site distal to the occlusion. A therapy catheter is then introduced to treat the occlusion. Next, a catheter is delivered just proximal to the occlusive device, and this catheter is used to aspirate and/or irrigate the area removing particles and debris. The aspiration and irrigation steps are preferably repeated until the particles and debris are removed. Perfusion may be performed by using a perfusion-filter distal of the lesion to be treated or a hypotube which extends beyond the occlusive device attached to the guidewire. The present invention provides for a minimally invasive procedure which can be performed quickly and efficiently, with reduced risks to the patient.

摘要: Disclosed herein is an improved core wire for use in a medical catheter. In one aspect, a tapering core wire is incorporated into the distal end of a catheter. The catheter has a tubular body. Both ends of an inflatable balloon are mounted to the tubular body. The core wire extends from the distal end of the tubular body. In one embodiment, substantially all of the taper of the core wire occurs in the extending portion of the core wire over a length of at least 15 mm but no more than 60 mm. In another aspect, a core wire with a shapeable tip and method of manufacturing the same are provided. A core wire previously made superelastic is subject to additional processing to remove its superelasticity thereby allowing the material to be shapeable to aid in advancing the core wire through a blood vessel or other body cavities. In another aspect of the present invention, a method is provided for securing the core wire to the distal end of an elongated catheter tubular body. The tubular body is mechanically crimped onto the core wire to secure the core wire in place. This crimping method has been found to increase the strength of the bond between the core wire and the catheter tube so that greater pull force is required to break the core wire off from the catheter.

摘要: A method for reducing distal embolization during insertion of devices to treat plaque, thrombi and other intravascular occlusions. Using a guide catheter, a guidewire is delivered to a site proximal to the lesion. An aspiration catheter is then introduced over the guidewire, and the two are moved together in a distal to proximal direction across the occlusion. The aspiration catheter is then moved in a proximal to distal direction while continuously aspirating, which prevents embolization of any particles which may be created during the crossing of the guidewire.

摘要: The present invention provides an apparatus for performing angioplasty or vascular intervention procedures. The apparatus of the present invention comprises a catheter apparatus comprised of a superelastic hollow guidewire, a balloon member and a flexible tip. The superelastic hollow guidewire of the invention is preferably a hypotube of nitinol alloy. The use of nitinol alloy as hollow guidewire provides a catheter apparatus having high flexibility and torqueability as well as small cross sectional diameter.

摘要: A catheter and/or balloon for a medical catheter is formed from a blend of polymeric components, including a first crystalline polymeric component and a second softening polymeric component. The polymeric material can also include a third compatibilizing agent to facilitate blending the first two polymeric components together. The first polymeric component can be a polyester or a polyamide, and the second polymeric component can be a polyolefin, or an ethylene copolymer. The third polymeric component is preferably an ethylene copolymer containing a reactive group that forms a covalent bond with the first polymeric component. The polymeric material forming the balloon or catheter also can include a catalyst to catalyze a reaction between the compatibilizing ethylene copolymer and the second polymer component. The second, softening polymeric component can also include a silane coupling agent, to provide a reactive softening copolymer that bonds with the first strong polymeric component, to provide increased flexibility of catheters and balloons formed from the polymeric components. The properties of the balloon and catheter formed from the polymeric material can be enhanced by crosslinking by irradiation of the polymeric material.

摘要: A sealing element for dilatation and other inflatable catheters which is formed of a polymer matrix having a bearing surface and having incorporated, at least in the portion of the matrix forming the bearing surface, a lubricous material which swells upon contact with an aqueous based liquid. The bearing surface is adapted to engage the surface of a movable member such as a guidewire when the bearing surface expands from contact with aqueous based liquid. This engagement seals the interface between the movable member and the sealing element and prevents the passage of significant amounts of liquid through the interface between these elements.

摘要: A medical device, and a system and packaged kit containing the medical device for the treatment of a sinus opening is described. The medical device comprises a proximal end, a distal end, and a shaft system having an inflation lumen and an irrigation lumen the proximal and. The shaft system has a proximal shaft section and a distal shaft section. An inflatable balloon is attached to the distal shaft section in a position that is proximal to said distal end. The irrigation tip is distal to the balloon on the distal shaft section and has a tip opening and one or more radially facing openings. A method for treating a sinus opening includes inserting a system that includes the medical device, a sinus guide catheter and a sinus guide element into a patient's anatomy, dilating the sinus opening and irrigating a target in the nasal anatomy.
