摘要: A system is provided for servicing requests by a mobile controller to utilize stationary or mobile resources present within a partitioned communication cell such as an office or room in a building. The mobile controller has a control signal mechanism for generating control request signals to modify behavior of the stationary or mobile resource, with the range of the control request signals substantially limited to the partitioned communication cell. A room agent receives and acts upon the control request signals after dynamically determining availability of both mobile resources entering and exiting the partitioned communication cell and stationary resources already present in the partitioned communication cell. In operation, the room agent is configured to grant requests for utilization of mobile and stationary resources located within the partitioned communication cell when predetermined contextual attributes within the partitioned communication cell are consistent with previously specified interaction policies.

摘要: An apparatus and methods for using a Variable Orifice Capillary Wave Printer are disclosed. The invention as described herein provides a capability to transfer high resolution graphical images onto a projection medium (14) with pseudo-gray-scale (i.e. variable spot-size). A standing fluid ripple wave (38) or capillary wave is generated along a narrow channel (20) at the top of an ink reservoir (16), upon the free fluid surface (27). The capillary wave (38) is spatially stablized with an elongated slotted bar (30) of anisotropically etched signal crystal silicon. Piezoelectric pushers (34) are positioned at the anti-nodes (42) of the stabilized standing capillary wave (38) to selectively restrict the narrow slots (32) etched into the slotted silicon bar (30). Selective actuation of one or more piezoelectric pusher (34) for a predetermined length of time results in the ejection of a stream of fluid droplets (12). Pseudo-gray-scale printing is achieved by independently varying the ejction period of each piezoelectric pusher (34). A low-cost, highly integrated and highly producible apparatus (10) may be created by laminating an array of selective transistor switches (36a) and an array of piezoelectric pushers (34) onto a glass substrate (36b) which is embedded in the body of the acoustic ink reservoir (16). The shortcomings of current apparatus designed for selectively addressing the anti-nodes (42) of a stabilized standing capillary wave (38) have been overcome by the Variable Orifice Capillary Wave Printer, making such a device a low-cost and highly producible alternative for the printer industry.

摘要: Provision is made for selectively addressing inividual crests of traveling or standing capillary surface waves to eject droplets from the selected crests on command. To that end, the addressing mechanism of this invention locally increase the surface pressure acting on the selected crests and/or locally reduce the surface tension of the liquid within the selected crests. The preferred addressing mechanisms have sufficient spatial resolution to address a single crest substantially independently of its neighbors.Discrete addressing mechanisms having a plurality of individual addressing elements are especially attractive for liquid ink printing and similar applications, not only because their individual addressing elements may be spatially fixed, but also because the spatial frequency of their addressing elements may be matched to the spatial frequency of the capillary wave. Such frequency matching enables selected crests of the capillary wave to be addressed in parallel, such as for line printing. Preferably, the capillary wave for a printer is a spatially stabilized standing wave, so that the crests and troughs of the capillary wave are locked in predetermined spatial locations.

摘要: Devices, systems, and methods to selectively emit scent control material responsive to local conditions of a scent control device. The local conditions may dictate the effectiveness of a given set of output parameters of a scent control device. The scent control device accepts as input, one or more conditional inputs carrying information about the local conditions around the scent control device, such as weather conditions, elevation, barometric pressure, or functional status of the scent control device. Operational programs corresponding to the conditional inputs may be automatically selected based on the combination of conditional inputs to cause the output parameters of the scent control device to match or take into account the local conditions. The scent control device then outputs scent control material such as ozone at a rate effective to control one or more scents to a level that is not perceivable by animals or humans.

摘要: Provided is a standalone integrated water treatment system for a distributed water supply. A filter input receives water to be treated. A coagulation system is in operative connection with the filter input, wherein the water which has been filtered is subjected to a coagulation process performed by the coagulation system to create pin floc from suspensions in the water. A maturation buffer tank is in operative connection with the coagulation system, wherein floc is aggregated in size within the water. A spiral separator is in operative connection with the maturation buffer tank, and the water is separated into two water streams, a first stream of water having most of the floc removed, and a second stream of water which includes a concentrated amount of the floc. An optional filtration system is in operative connection with the spiral separator and is configured to receive the first stream of water and to perform a filtration operation on the first stream of water. A sterilization system is in operative connection with the optional filtration system and is configured to perform a sterilization operation on the first stream of water. The water is then output from the sterilization system as potable water.

摘要: Features described herein relate to ejecting drops from a thin layer of fluid. Piezoelectric elements can generate a uniform high acoustic field, which is transferred through a segmented metal support structure and an acoustic horn. The sound waves generate capillary waves on a thin layer of fluid on a top surface of the acoustic horn. At sufficiently high amplitudes, the capillary waves begin to break apart, resulting in the ejection of drops from the thin layer of fluid.
