Abstract:
An electroluminescent backlit device utilizing light-emitting polymers (LEP) is disclosed. A sandwich of LEP material and two electrical conductive materials are used to provide back lighting for a keypad or display. The electrical conductive layers are etched to form channels which provide current to and excite the LEP material to produce light at predetermined points. The etchings are directed around existing electrical contacts to facilitate normal operation of the underlying host system, such as a cellular telephone.
Abstract:
A tool for use in checking the level or grade of the ground surface in a construction area or site using a daylight visible wavelength semiconductor laser diode module to project a laser beam from the location of interest to a location where the elevation or the amount of cut or fill is known. The tool is a relatively small, hand-held and compact device that utilizes batteries contained within the tool to power the laser diode. The laser diode module fits within a module plug that fits within a module plug compartment in the front of the tool. A front end cap encloses the laser diode module and the module plug in the tool. The laser beam emitted from the tool is in axial alignment with an edge or ridge on outside surface of the tool. A bubble level ensures that the tool is held parallel to the ground during use.
Abstract:
The present invention is an occlusive or semi-occlusive barrier moisturizing lotion useful for treating pathologies of the skin. The lotion is composed of an oil-in-water emulsion that includes water, one or more emollients, at least one polyhydric alcohol, a barrier polymer, and a therapeutical agent, preferably a dermatological agent such as a steroid. When the lotion is applied to the skin and dries, a polymeric film forms on the surface of the lotion to retain the therapeutic agent in contact with the surface of the skin. The emollient system of the lotion provides a moisturizing and soothing effect on the skin, and the occlusive/semi-occlusive nature of the lotion causes hydration of the skin to facilitate and enhance penetration of the drug into the skin.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a system for applying a plurality, preferably two, dermatological agents to the skin from a single dispensing and applicator system comprising a plurality of compartmentalized applicator pads which may be exposed and sequentially applied to the afflicted skin area.
Abstract:
An integrated APU is provided having a combined starter/generator device mounted within the gearbox housing so as to reduce the number of reduction gears, bearings and other redundant components sufficiently to eliminate the need for a separate lubrication oil scavenger pump as well. Further integration and savings can be achieved by de-coupling the fuel pump and lubrication pump from the gearbox and driving those pumps instead by an electric motor.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a system for applying a plurality, preferably two, dermatological agents to the skin from a single dispensing and applicator system comprising a plurality of compartmentalized applicator pads which may be exposed and sequentially or simultaneously applied to the skin area to be treated. Each of the applicator pads in the system are provided with a different dermatological agent.
Abstract:
The invention provides a method for applying a plurality of compositions, preferably two, containing a dermatological or other therapeutical agent to the skin from a single dispensing and applicator system. The system has a plurality of compartmentalized applicator pads which may be exposed and sequentially or simultaneously applied to the skin area to be treated. The system is useful for administering separate phases of an occlusive or semi-occlusive film-forming solution for treating pathologies of the skin. When the phases are applied to and dried upon the skin, a polymeric film forms to retain the therapeutical agent in contact with the surface of the skin.
Abstract:
An x-ray fluorographic system which produces a cineangiogram enables a feature in the image to be identified with a cursor and automatically tracked in subsequent images. The identified feature, such as a suspected lesion in a coronary artery, is located in each x-ray frame of the cineangiogram and the data is displayed such that the feature remains motionless in the center of each successive image.
Abstract:
A method for cleaning soiled fabric articles is provided which comprises tumbling the soiled articles in a rotary clothes dryer at an elevated temperature, in a closed system, such as a sealed plastic bag, wherein said system also includes a fabric-cleaning article comprising a porous substrate sheet impregnated with a gelled liquid cleaning composition.
Abstract:
Ultrasonic surface examination, of interest in a variety of manufacturing and maintenance situations, is facilitated by a method which involves localized sensing of a surface wave by optical-fiber interferometry. The method is particularly applicable for examination of surfaces in confined spaces and wherever line-of-sight examination is difficult.
