A process for producing an ink jet head having an ink pathway communicating with a discharging outlet and an energy generating element for generating energy utilized for discharging ink. The process includes providing a substrate with an energy generating element disposed thereon; forming on the substrate and energy generating element a photosensitive layer comprised of an ionizing radiation decomposable photosensitive resin containing a crosslinkable structural unit; subjecting the photosensitive resin layer to crosslinking treatment to produce a crosslinked photosensitive layer; forming a coating resin layer on the crosslinked photosensitive layer; hardening the coating resin layer; irradiating ionizing radiation to the crosslinked photosensitive layer through the hardened coating resin layer to decompose the crosslinked photosensitive layer corresponding to the ink pathway in communication with a discharging outlet; and eluting the irradiated crosslinked photosensitive layer to thereby form the ink pathway.

The liquid-ink-contacting sections of the ink-jet head are sealed with a moisture-curing sealant essentially consisting of a silicone-modified organic polymer compound. In the molecular structure, the silicone-modified organic polymer compound has carbon atoms modified with alkoxysilane. The moisture-curing sealant contains an organo-tin or organo-titanium catalyst having the alkoxy and/or carboxyl groups, the alkyl chain of the alkoxy group has 5 or fewer carbon atoms, and the alkyl chain of the carboxyl group has 6 or fewer carbon atoms.

An ink jet head includes a heater board having a substrate on which a plurality of energy generating elements for generating energy utilized to discharge ink are provided, and a wall member joined to the heater board. The wall member has a plurality of flow passage walls which partially define flow passages, and the energy generated by the energy generating element acts through the flow passage so as to act on the ink to discharge the ink. The flow passages are fully defined when the heater board is joined to the wall member. A recessed portion provided in the heater board of the ink jet head is positioned between adjoining energy generating elements. The recessed portion has a bottom surface located at a position which is lower than a position for a heat acting surface of the heater board along which heat is transmitted to the ink. The flow passage walls of the wall member abut the heater board at the bottom surface. Consequently, any pressure wave generated by the energy generating element is not released to an adjacent flow passage, and crosstalk between the adjoining flow passages can be prevented. As a result, an ink jet head exhibiting excellent printing quality can be provided.

A method for manufacturing a liquid jet recording head includes a first process of forming an ink flow passage pattern on a substrate by a resin layer; a second process of forming a covering resin layer to cover a resin layer on the resin layer; a third process of forming an ink discharging port pattern by a material having resistance to an oxygen plasma on the surface of the covering resin layer; a fourth process of forming ink discharging ports by dry etching the resin layer by the application of the oxygen plasma with the ink discharging port pattern as a mask; and a fifth process of eluting the resin layer. This method enables the ink discharging ports to be formed without cutting the substrate and at the same time, the distance between the ink discharging pressure generating elements and the orifices to be controlled rigidly; hence making it possible to manufacture a liquid jet recording head having a stabilized discharging characteristic.

A recording medium comprising a substrate and a transfer recording layer containing a photo-initiator comprising camphorquinone and a coumarin derivative. Such photo-initiator aids in realizing high sensitivity without lowering storage stability of the recording medium. The transfer recording layer causes a change in transfer characteristic when provided with light energy and heat energy, at least one of which is applied imagewise, to provide a transferable portion therein. The transferable portion is then transferred to a transfer-receiving medium such as plain paper to form a transferred image thereon.

A transfer recording medium comprising a substrate and a plurality of image forming elements bonded thereto by a binder is provided. The surface of each image forming element at least partially protrudes out of the binder. Such transfer recording medium may be prepared by applying the binder onto the substrate in a prescribed thickness, disposing the image forming elements in excess on the binder, and then removing the excess of the image forming elements. The thus prepared transfer recording medium provides an image having a high density and a faithfully reproducible color.
