摘要:
A system for automatically releasing selected plural sheet feeding nip sets spaced along a print media sheet feeding path of a printer, wherein the idler rollers are rotatably mounted on common idler shafts and a selectable partial rotation system driven by a single low cost motor is flexibly connected to those plural idler shafts to partially rotate eccentric lift cams on each idler shaft into the underlying surface as to lift the idler shaft and thereby move the idler rollers away from their normally mating sheet feed rollers to release all the sheet feeding nips, enabling sheet deskew, inversion, acceleration, deceleration, or sheet jam clearance in that selected area of the sheet feeding path.

A sheet registration system, especially for printers, with a lower cost and lower mass-movement system for both sheet deskewing and transverse registration repositioning of the sheets in the same integral system, especially for higher speed printing. Only one main drive motor can drive both of the two spaced apart sheet feeding nips, together with a lower power, lower mass, deskewing differential drive system for providing the relative differential angular movement of the two spaced sheet feeding nips to achieve the desired amount of sheet deskewing movement, without interrupting the forward feeding movement of the sheet. Also disclosed are extensive further reductions in the component mass of the lateral translation movement for lateral sheet registration.

In a printing system in which a rotatable print image bearing belt is mounted on at least one axial belt roller, and the belt must be maintained in a desired substantially consistent lateral registration to maintain image quality, the lateral misregistration of the belt is sensed and a low and substantially constant lateral positional corrective force is applied to the belt in response to the sensing of the lateral misregistration in one of the two directions axial of the axial belt roller for at least one complete rotation of the rotatable print image bearing belt, the low and substantially constant transverse corrective force having a force level sufficient to provide the desired substantially consistent lateral registration of the print image bearing belt.

An apparatus including a transfer belt, an edge sensor and a belt steering roll. The transfer belt having a lateral edge and the edge sensor detecting lateral positions of the lateral edge as it passes the edge sensor. The belt steering roll controlling lateral movement of the transfer belt, which is rotatably mounted maintaining rolling engagement with the transfer belt. An axis of rotation of the belt steering roll selectively tiltable defining a steering angle with respect to an axis reference orientation. Changes in the steering angle inducing a lateral shift profile to the lateral edge. The lateral shift profile defined by changes to the lateral positions of the lateral edge during a period. The steering angle being changed based on a differential between a currently detected lateral position of a segment of the lateral edge and a predetermined lateral position derived from the lateral shift profile.

An edge sensing apparatus is disclosed including first and second emitters, first and second detectors and a timer. Beams radiated from the first emitter being emitted in an opposite direction from beams radiated from the second emitter. The first and second detectors being aligned to receive beams from the first and second emitters respectively, where the first detector is offset in a cross-process direction from the first emitter and/or the second detector. The timer receiving signals from both the first and second detectors, wherein a change of the signals determines a position of an edge of a substrate media sheet causing the change of signals. Also, an edge sensing method is disclosed including measuring a mean time associated with a change of signals received from the two detectors and determining a location of a sheet edge causing the change of signals based on the mean time.

The controller is operatively coupled to the reflexive system and is configured to control ejection of ink from a print head system in response to detecting the lateral position of the substrate media and at least one of the lead edge and the trail edge of the substrate media.
摘要:
A printing system and method using alternating control modes for one or more, but not all, sheet transport devices in order to avoid contention. In a printer having first, second and third sheet transport devices in series (e.g., registration, image transfer and image fixing devices), the second device can always operate in a velocity control mode. However, the first and/or third devices can alternate between velocity and torque control modes. For example, the first device can operate in a torque control mode, when a sheet is concurrently engaged by both the first and second devices, and in a velocity control mode at other times. Additionally or alternatively, the third device can operate in a torque control mode, when a sheet is concurrently engaged by both the second and third devices, and in a velocity control mode at other times. Transition control modes can be implemented to generate smooth transitions between modes.
