    摘要： A head-up display includes a projection system and a window having a target area where a reflective polarizer is positioned to reflect light from the projection system to a viewing area. Light from the projection system is p-polarized and strikes exposed window surface(s) at an acute angle to reduce or eliminate multiple or “ghost” images. The acute angle is closely matched to a Brewster angle of the exposed window surface(s). The reflective polarizer includes a multilayer stack with refractive indices of individual layers chosen to reflect p-polarized light substantially more than s-polarized light over a wide angular range that includes the acute angle. The reflective polarizer also can reflect infrared light to reduce cabin heating from solar radiation.

    摘要： A transparent multilayer device which reflects light in the infrared region of the spectrum while transmitting light in the visible region of the spectrum. The device comprises a multilayered polymer film and a transparent conductor. The multilayered polymer film preferably comprises layers of a semi-crystalline naphthalene dicarboxylic acid polyester having an average thickness of not more than 0.5 microns and layers of a second polymer having an average thickness of not more than 0.5 microns. The layers of semi-crystalline naphthalene dicarboxylic acid polyester preferably have a positive stress optical coefficient. The transparent conductor comprises at least one layer containing a metal or a metal compound in which the metal compound is preferably selected from the group consisting of metal oxides, metal alloys, and combinations thereof. Silver and indium tin oxide are particularly preferred transparent conductors. The transparent multilayer devices may be applied to the surface of a glass or plastic substrate, such as an exterior window in a building, or to a windshield or window in an automobile, truck, or aircraft.

    摘要： The present invention provides reflective films and other optical bodies which exhibit sharp bandedges on one or both sides of the main reflection bands. The optical bodies comprise multilayer stacks M.sub.1 and M.sub.2, each having first order reflections in a desired part of the spectrum and comprising optical repeating units R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, respectively. At least one of the optical repeating units R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 varies monotonically in optical thickness along the thickness of the associated multilayer stack.

    摘要： The present application discloses filters and methods of making filters. In one aspect, a filter comprises a multilayer optical film (MOF) having a first reflection band, the MOF including distorted portions, the distorted portions having a second reflection band different from the first reflection band, a transparent outer layer disposed on a first side of the MOF, and an IR blocking material residing on the MOF and between the transparent outer layer and the MOF, wherein the IR blocking material is selectively disposed in the distorted portions. In another aspect, a method of producing a filter comprises the steps of providing a multilayer optical film (MOF) having a first reflection band, distorting portions of the MOF, the distorted portions having a second reflection band, different from the first reflection band, and transferring a layer of IR blocking material to the distorted portions of the MOF.
