Abstract:
The present invention provides an integral net having a lattice of polymeric material defined by holes traversing the integral net from one surface to the other. The present invention also provides a method for producing an embossed sheet of polymeric material by first contacting a billet of polymeric material with an embossing tool having a plurality of protrusions whereby the embossing tool impresses indentations into the billet to a given depth. Subsequently, the method involves skiving the embossed billet. By this method, an embossed sheet of the polymeric material is removed from the billet, which embossed sheet can be an integral net.
Abstract:
Webs can be embossed and laminated using irregular bonding patterns with the pin-on-pin embossing process. Different patterns are provided onto each web and the webs are joined in a bonding nip to form a laminate. The bonding pattern formed in the bonding nip is irregular. The irregularity of the bonding pattern reduces vibrations within the machinery and allows increased machine speed. The irregularity of the pattern can be determined using the Self-Similarity Count or the Energy Suppression Factor method.
Abstract:
An embossing and laminating machine is described which comprises a first embossing cylinder (3) with a surface provided with a first set of protuberances (P3) disposed with a first pitch in a first direction (Lx3) of alignment and with a second pitch in a second direction (Ly3) of alignment, the said first and the said second direction of alignment forming between them an angle (&agr;) other then zero; a second embossing cylinder (5), with its axis (A5) parallel to the axis (A3) of the first embossing cylinder (3), and with a surface provided with a second set of protuberances (P5) disposed with the said first pitch in a third direction (Lx5) of alignment and with the said second pitch in a fourth direction (Ly5) of alignment; and a first and a second pressure roller (7, 9) interacting with the said first and the said second embossing cylinder (3, 5) respectively. The first and the third direction of alignment (Lx3) are inclined with respect to the axes (A3, A5) of the corresponding embossing cylinders (3, 5) such that, in the lamination nip, there is only partial corresponding between the protuberances of one cylinder and the protuberances of the other cylinder.
Abstract:
A sheet of paper, in particular for a sanitary paper, consists of at least one ply of absorbent, creped paper of a specific surface weight between 12-35 g/m.sup.2 evincing first and second protrusions respectively (10, 2) respectively arrayed in a first and second pattern. The first pattern is composed of pattern elements each constituted by at least one of the first protrusions (10) and is comparatively well spaced apart mutually, while the second so-called background pattern comprises the second protrusions (2) arranged in more compact manner between the pattern elements. The sheet of paper is characterized in that the pattern elements form a graphic pattern while being arrayed at a rate of at most 0.5 element/cm.sup.2 and the first protrusions (10) constituting them evince at their top a line-shaped surface with a width between 0.1-2 mm, the second protrusions (2) being arrayed at the rate of at least 30, and preferably 40, protrusions/cm.sup.2 and ensuring the essential functional features.
Abstract:
Cellulosic webs can be embossed using an extended nip structure with embossing means in a controlled nip dwell zone. Single and multiply wipes and towels produced by plying together two or more such webs can be embossed. Webs having common caliper and basis weight can be processed using the extended nip structure with an appropriate embossing means. The tendency of the embossed relief to relax and disappear after processing can be substantially alleviated by controlling dwell time to ensure reliable embossing.
Abstract:
An improved system for embossing a pattern on an absorbent consumer paper product such as a paper towel includes a first pair of embossing rollers that are patterned to impress a relatively fine preparatory base pattern onto the web, and a second pair of embossing rollers that are patterned to impress a final pattern onto the web. The final pattern is of a type that would cause bursting of the absorbent paper web if the absorbent paper web was passed through the second pair of embossing rollers without first being passed through the first set of embossing rollers. As a result, the formation of the preparatory base pattern by the first set of embossing rollers creates stretchability in the absorbent paper web that enables the final pattern to be impressed thereon by the second pair of embossing rollers without bursting the absorbent paper web.
Abstract:
A paper toweling which provides a combination of strength, bulk and absorbency while presenting an attractive appearance. Included are a single ply paper towel having areas of light and heavy embossing perforations which form diamond shaped islands of heavy embossing perforations surrounded by intersecting bands of light bosses.
Abstract:
A napkin is folded so that certain layers include marginal portions which extend beyond the remaining layers. The marginal portions are provided with a deeper embossing pattern than the remaining portions of the napkin to provide enhanced banding and handling of a stack of napkins.
Abstract:
Tissue sheets, such as are useful for facial or bath tissue, can be embossed with a fine scale embossing pattern to increase bulk with a minimal loss in strength. The fine scale embossing pattern contains at least about 15 discrete intermeshing embossing elements per square centimeter (100 per square inch) and can enable the tissue manufacturer to produce premium quality tissues having adequate softness, bulk and strength from conventional tissue basesheets without layering or throughdrying equipment. Depending on the starting basesheet material, tissues having a unique balance of properties can be produced, especially for conventional wet-pressed basesheets.
