The second part can be locked relative to the retractor frame, and each of the toothed elements is allocated to a different part of the belt shaft.

A method of tensioning a seat belt by means of a belt tensioner and subsequent load limitation by means of a load limiter includes moving a load transmission element (20) by a drive unit in a first direction so that the load transmission element (20) engages in a pinion (14) coupled to a belt reel (12). The rotating the pinion (14) is rotated by the moved load transmission element (20) in a tensioning direction A. When the rotation of the pinion (14) is completed it is ensured that a part (20b) of the load transmission element (20) engages in the pinion (14).

A webbing take-up device is provided with a clutch cover fixed to a sub-torsion shaft so as to be rotatable integrally therewith; a clutch guide arranged so as to face the clutch cover, and supported capable of relatively rotating to the sub-torsion shaft; a lock ring formed around the clutch cover and the clutch guide; and a clutch plates turned to a lock ring side while being guided by the clutch guide in accordance with relative rotation of the clutch guide to the clutch cover into one rotational direction, and engaged with the lock ring. L-shaped springs which urge the clutch plates to a clutch cover side are formed integrally with the clutch guide.

摘要： A force limiting device for use with a safety belt retractor is provided. The safety belt retractor includes a spool and a safety belt webbing attached to and wound around the spool for payout of the webbing under the influence of forwardly directed movement of a vehicle occupant. The force limiting device comprises a fixed member, a shaft connected to the fixed member and a coupling received on the shaft and operatively connected to the spool. The coupling is configured to move along the longitudinal extent of the shaft towards the fixed member during payout of the webbing. Engagement of the coupling with the fixed member prevents further payout of the webbing. The shaft is configured to limit movement of the coupling along the shaft during payout of the webbing to control effective belt force on the vehicle occupant during a crash condition.

摘要： A safety belt roll-up mechanism is provided, and includes a force limitation device that operates in a multi-stage manner and has a two-stage torque rod and a pyrotechnically operating switching device that couples the torque rod, in various clamping lengths, with a belt shaft. The extent of the belt strap unwound from the belt shaft is utilized for actuation of the force limitation device. A ratchet wheel is connected to the belt shaft via a reduction gear mechanism. A portion of the periphery of the ratchet wheel has a toothing for engaging the reduction gear mechanism. A further portion of the periphery of the ratchet wheel has a switching contour that rests against a contact pin of an electric switch. The switching contour has a profile that effects the connection or disconnection of the switching device for the torque rod.

The retractor includes a motor that drives a pressure rod into a seat belt such that the seat belt is nipped between the pressure rod and belt receiving portions. The driving force of the motor that controls the movement of the pressure rod is set based on the situation at the time of a collision. Thus, the load limit to be exerted on the seat belt is set flexibly and widely according to the situation in an emergency. Further, the motor and the pressure piston rod can be activated repeatedly and, therefore, can be reused.

摘要： A four point restraint apparatus for a vehicle includes in a preferred embodiment a first pair of flexible lap belts connected at laterally opposite sides of a seat cushion with inner ends transversely connectable to one another across pelvic regions of an occupant and a second pair of flexible shoulder belts connected to a support in the vehicle body and extending forward of the seat back adjacent the neck and across the clavicle of the occupant. The shoulder belts extend from the clavicle essentially parallel downward across front edge portions of the occupant's rib cage to laterally spaced attachment with the lap belts adjacent pelvic regions of an occupant. Additional features of the preferred apparatus include a ramp sloping upward toward a forward edge of the cushion; an upwardly adjustable load-carrying headrest in the seat back for guiding the shoulder belts over the clavicle of an occupant; a load-limiting retractor or laterally spaced dual load-limiting retractors connecting the shoulder belts to the seat back; one or more dynamic pretensioners connected with the lap belts; and maintaining the spacing of the shoulder belts at a constant approximately 62.5 mm lateral offset in opposite directions from a center of the occupant's position over a distance from the clavicle of the occupant to connection with the lap belts.

摘要： A retractor for a vehicle safety restraint which comprises web locking wedges (49a, 49b) which grip the seat belt webbing (19), under certain predetermined load conditions, so as to more securely restrain the vehicle occupant at the beginning of a crash pulse and which includes a load limiting arrangement so as to allow a limited and controlled pay out of webbing at the beginning of the crash pulse. The web locking retractor thus comprises a wedge (49a, 49b) which has an inner gripping surface with a predetermined coefficient of friction relative to the seat belt webbing so that, at a predetermined loading, the webbing slips past the friction surface of the wedge. This may be achieved by using double thickness webbing along a predetermined portion of the seat belt, for example two layers of webbing, or coating the wedge or a part of the webbing with a material (322) which is erodible or deformable and which may be cut into or eroded by the friction surface of the wedge, or by teeth (320) on that surface. Alternatively or in addition, the wedge comprises a cylindrical drum shaped member of which the outer curved surface is the gripping surface, the drum having a torsion bar arranged along its axis fixed against rotation at one end to the wedge housing and fixed to the cylindrical wedge at a point spaced from the end.
