An improved vapor-seal, child-resistant closure and container combination is disclosed herein. The container comprises a cylindrical plastic body which is molded in one piece and has circumferentially spaced, radially extending projections on the upper end thereof that have notches therein. The closure comprises a one-piece plastic body having a top panel and an annular depending skirt with circumferentially spaced lugs extending radially inwardly for engagement with the notches. An annular integral rim or abutment is provided on the annular surface of the top panel of the closure and depends downwardly therefrom. A unique, one-piece, vapor-seal liner is interposed between the annular abutment and the lugs for engagement with the upper end of the container. The one-piece liner comprises a disc member which engages the annular rim of the container and includes a downwardly depending plug member which provides a vapor-tight seal with the inside surface of the container. The liner also serves as a spring between the closure and the container to bias the closure lugs into engagement with the projections on the container.

The safety cap comprises a cap to fit over a standard bottle top and an annular base having a center opening slightly larger than the neck of the bottle and special locking means located around the edge of the base for detachable engagement with the cap. The neck of the bottle has retaining means so that the base cannot be removed after it has once been placed on the neck. The cap, which when in position completely covers the top of the bottle and at least a portion of the neck, is equipped with special locking means located around its open end for detachable engagement with the locking means located on the base whereby when the cap is in locked position, the bottle top cannot be removed by children to gain access to the contents of the bottle.

A plurality of cap locking elements project from the inner surface of the skirt for engagement with and disengagement from the container locking elements by an axial motion followed successively by a rotative motion of the cap relative to the adapter. The assembly includes biasing means engageable between the cap and adapter for biasing the cap locking elements toward locked engagement with the container locking elements.
