    Abstract: A hydraulic torque converter, particularly for use in a motor vehicle between the prime mover and the transmission of the power train, employs a combination of a bypass clutch with one or more torsional vibration dampers which brings about savings in space and/or in the number of parts. In addition, the torque converter can stand long periods of use and is less prone to wear, adverse influences of abruptly developing stresses and/or other undesirable influences than conventional torque converters. Furthermore, the improved torque converter employs or can employ a bypass clutch and/or one or more torsional vibration dampers simpler and less expensive than but superior to those in conventional torque converters.

    Abstract: A torque converter which can prevent an engagement pressure of a lockup clutch from becoming very high. A converter chamber is formed between an outer disc portion of a front cover and an impeller shell. A partition wall separating a clutch chamber and a converter chamber is provided in the outer disc portion. A clutch chamber has a drive plate serving as an input side of an engine output, a driven plate serving as an output side, and a lockup piston forming an engagement oil chamber along with an inner disc portion of the front cover. Since the partition wall is provided, the lockup clutch can be engaged without being affected by the hydraulic pressure within the converter chamber.

The gearbox input shaft (7, 8) further comprises a shaft centre (7) and a shaft shell (8), surrounding the shaft centre (7), fixed to each other in a rotating sense. Shaft centre (7) and shaft shell (8) are matched to each other in such a manner that the shaft centre (7) runs radially in the shaft shell (8) with no play and the shaft centre (7) and the shaft shell (8) together form the axial channel (9).

    Abstract: A hydrodynamic torque converter includes a converter housing and a turbine wheel which is arranged in the converter housing and is rotatable with respect to the converter housing about a rotational axis of the converter. The torque converter further includes a lockup clutch for producing a torque transmission connection between the converter housing and the turbine wheel. The lockup clutch has a first friction surface arrangement held by a first friction surface carrier arrangement substantially fixed with respect to rotation relative to the converter housing, a second friction surface arrangement is held by a second friction surface carrier arrangement substantially fixed with respect to rotation relative to the turbine wheel, a contact pressing arrangement for pressing the first and the second friction surface arrangement against one another in frictional contact, and an abutment arrangement at which the first and second friction surface arrangement can be supported substantially in the direction of the axis of rotation when pressed by the contact pressure arrangement. The first friction surface carrier arrangement has a substantially annular body region connected either directly or indirectly with the converter housing and driver projections which are arranged at a distance from one another in the circumferential direction proceeding from the body region. Respective counter-driver projections at the first friction surface arrangement engage between these driver projections.
