Abstract: An internal combustion engine for a vehicle and a method for assembling an internal combustion engine. The engine includes a crankcase; a crankshaft disposed at least in part in the crankcase; a cylinder block connected to the crankcase, the cylinder block defining at least one cylinder; at least one piston operatively connected to the crankshaft and disposed in a corresponding cylinder; an oil tank defining an oil reservoir configured to contain oil therein; and a dry-sump lubrication system comprising a pump module for circulating oil throughout the engine. The pump module includes a pump shaft rotatable about a pump shaft axis; at least one pressure pump mounted to the pump shaft and configured to pump oil from the oil tank; and at least one scavenge pump mounted to the pump shaft and configured to draw oil from a respective part of the engine.

Abstract: In a variable displacement type oil pump, a swing member accommodates a pump forming member, and swings to vary a quantity of change of a volumetric capacity of each pump chamber. A biasing member biases the swing member in a direction to increase the quantity of change of the volumetric capacity of each pump chamber. A first control oil chamber applies a first torque to the swing member in a direction to reduce the quantity of change of the volumetric capacity of each pump chamber. A second control oil chamber applies a second torque to the swing member in a direction to increase the quantity of change of the volumetric capacity of each pump chamber, wherein the second torque is larger than the first torque. A switching mechanism switches between supply and drain of working oil with respect to the second control oil chamber.

Abstract: A lube skid apparatus configured to be moveable and transportable. The lube skid having one or more tanks carried by a scaffold of the lube skid. One or both tanks having sloped bottom walls to optimize flow of fluids in the tanks to minimize residual fluid left in the tank. Abstract: An explosion relief valve for a crankcase of an engine includes a carrier plate, a cap, and an annular flame arrestor. The carrier plate includes a valve plate that has a sinuous shape for redirecting flame back into the engine. The flame arrestor includes a plurality of layers of smooth metal sheets, with each layer having a pattern of apertures that is different in size and spacing than the pattern of apertures of its adjacent layer. The apertures of each layer are partially, and only partially, aligned with the perforations of its adjacent layers. The layers are laid flush against each other to minimize or eliminate air space between the layers, leaving only the air channels existing between the apertures of the metal sheet layers as passageways for exhaust gases to be released from the valve.

Abstract: Apparatuses, systems and methods are disclosed for separating oil from a blow-by gas of an engine. An example includes engine system includes a crankcase having a blow-by gas passing therethrough, a compressor configured to receive air and compress the air, an aftercooler, an oil separating apparatus and a jet pump. The aftercooler communicates with the compressor and is configured to cool at least a portion of the air compressed by the compressor. The oil separating apparatus communicates with the blow-by gas. The oil separating apparatus communicates with a boost air that is a mixture of the compressed air from the compressor and cooled air from the aftercooler. The jet pump communicates with both the blow-by gas after leaving the oil separating apparatus and the boost air after leaving the oil separating apparatus and is configured to combine the blow-by gas and the boost air.

Abstract: A lubricant delivery system includes a valve manifold, an electronic controller, and a pressure sensor for determining whether there is adequate lubricant flow in the system. The valve manifold receives lubricant from a pressurized source. The valve manifold includes a plurality of valves configured to control the flow of lubricant to respective applicators. The electronic controller controls the opening and closing of the valves. The pressure sensor measures lubricant pressure in the valve manifold, and outputs a signal to the electronic controller. The signal correlates to a lubricant pressure value in the valve manifold. The electronic controller uses the lubricant pressure values to derive an indication of lubricant flow (via the valves) to the applicators.
