Abstract: A method for forming a modified resonator is provided. In one aspect, the method includes obtaining a resonator on top of a substrate, thereby forming an interface area between a bottom surface of the resonator and a top surface of the substrate. The resonator can include niobium or tantalum. The method also includes contacting the resonator and the substrate with a liquid acidic etching solution selected so as to have a higher etch rate towards the substrate than towards the resonator and a nonzero etch rate towards the resonator.

Abstract: A linear-to-circular polarizer antenna is disclosed. In accordance with embodiments of the invention, the polarizer antenna includes an antenna operable to transmit and receive polarized signals and a linear-to-circular polarizer coupled to the antenna. The polarizer includes a plurality of cascaded elements, waveplates or anisotropic sheets, having biaxial permittivity. Each cascaded element has a principal axis rotated at different angles relative to an adjacent element about a z-axis of a 3-dimensional x, y, z coordinate system, and each element is composed of an artificial anisotropic dielectric. The polarizer further includes impedance matching layers disposed adjacent the cascaded elements.

Abstract: A mechanism is provided to remove heat from an integrated circuit (IC) device die by directing heat through a waveguide to a heat sink. Embodiments provide the waveguide mounted on top of a package containing the IC device die. The waveguide is thermally coupled to the IC device die. The waveguide transports the heat to a heat sink coupled to the waveguide and located adjacent to the package on top of a printed circuit board on which the package is mounted. Embodiments provide both thermal dissipation of the generated heat while at the same time maintaining good radio frequency (RF) performance of the waveguide.

Abstract: A transmission line includes a ground conductor between first and second signal conductors. A substrate includes a first insulating layer and a second insulating layer having a relative permittivity lower than a relative permittivity of the first insulating layer. The first and second insulating layers are laminated in the thickness direction of the substrate and in contact with each other. The first and second signal conductors and the ground conductor are on an interface at which the first and second insulating layers are in contact with each other. The first and second signal conductors and the ground conductor each include a surface in contact with the first insulating layer and a surface in contact with the second insulating layer, the surface in contact with the second insulating layer being larger than the surface in contact with the first insulating layer.

Abstract: A multi-resonator filter has a signal input terminal, a signal output terminal, and a plurality of resonator components. The plurality of resonator components include an input resonator component coupled to the signal input terminal, an output resonator component coupled to the signal output terminal, and at least one intermediate resonator component coupled between the input resonator component and the output resonator component. The input resonator component, output resonator component and the at least one intermediate resonator component are arranged in a sequence to define a signal path between the signal input terminal and the signal output terminal. The at least one intermediate resonator component includes at least one multiple resonator component, where each multiple resonator component includes a pair of individual resonators coupled in parallel where each individual resonator in a given pair of individual resonators has the same resonant frequency.
