摘要: A steering turntable for a wheeled vehicle includes an upper support plate, a lower support plate rotatably supporting steering wheels of a vehicle, and an isolation plate mounted between said upper and lower plates to reduce steering forces required to steer the vehicle, with the isolation plate carrying multiple bearing elements. The isolation plate includes a pair of parallel bearing plates and is provided with multiple registering apertures cooperating with one another to define multiple cavities. Each of the cavities supports a spherical or spheroidal bearing element, and each cavity is defined by a truncated curved surface terminating in openings in the outer surfaces of the bearing plates so that the bearing elements project above their corresponding bearing plates to engage the upper and lower support plates, respectively.

摘要: A front steering gear (18) is connected with steerable front wheels (12 and 14) of a vehicle (10). A rear steering gear (28) is connected with steerable rear wheels (30 and 32) of the vehicle (10). A torque sensor (40) connected with a steering wheel (16) provides an output to a controller (42). The controller (42) effects operation of the rear steering gear (28) in response to an output of the torque sensor (40) corresponding to manual application of at least a predetermined force to the steering wheel (16). Alternatively or in addition, the controller (42) may effect operation of a rear wheel brake (50 or 52) which is disposed on a radially inner side of a turn in response to the output from the torque sensor (40).

摘要: To provide a rudder angle sensor with high accuracy, it is constituted such that a storage means capable of storing a correction value to correct a rotational delay of a driven gear relative to a main drive gear caused by a backlash at a time of reverse of a steering shaft is provided, a calculation means corrects a measured result of a measuring mechanism based on the correction value stored in the storage means, and thereby, a rotation angle of the steering shaft can be calculated. The measured result of the driven gear obtained by the measuring mechanism is corrected based on the correction value, and therefore, the backlash existing between the main drive gear and the driven gear can be matched completely or approximately. Namely, the high accuracy of the rudder angle sensor is realized.

Embodiments of the invention may reduce the unsprung weight of the wheel.

The steering system (10) also includes a motor operatively connected to the wheel (14) that augments the input to the steering angle (20) from the operator, and a controller (42) operatively connected to the motor and adjusting the augmentation of the input to the steering to provide a maximum angle from the operator based upon at least one operating parameter, that includes the size of the wheel, thereby allowing the wheel (14) to pivot to a steering angle (20) based on the operating parameter that exceeds the steering angle (20) corresponding to the maximum allowable value as defined by the operator input.

摘要: The invention is a trailing arm suspension with a steerable axle assembly having a caster angle controlling the direction at which the axle steers. A lift axle suspension or a lockout device is provided to lift the wheels from a ground engaging position or to lock the position of the wheels, respectively, permitting the operation of the vehicle in a direction opposite the direction for which the caster angle is designed. Advantageously, the lift axle suspension is of a simplified design and the trailing arm configuration is V-shaped to better absorb lateral forces.

Side beams and a central beam, which extend longitudinally of a motor vehicle, are disposed forwardly of a cross member and between left and right front wheels. Front portions of left and right leading arms are curved outwardly of the side beams. When a shock is applied, the front portions of the leading arms are bent laterally outwardly, displacing the front wheels outwardly of the cross member.

摘要: Vehicles which have power steering for rotating a steering force shaft articulated via tie rods to a steering linkage can be steered by manual force steering in event of failure of the power steering. The manual force must not exceed a legal limit. The invention accomplishes this by a geometric relationship between such shaft and the pivots for tie rods which connect the shaft to the tie rods for respective steered wheels. A link to which the shaft is secured has provision for carrying tie rod end pivots at a particular distance from each other and each at a particular distance from the shaft. The distances are such that the distance between the pivots is at least 0.8 the distance from the shaft to each pivot. By such proportioning the force transmittal that effects steering becomes more indirect as the medium steering angle of steering increases. The total steering forces then become lower.

摘要: A rear wheel steer angle controlling apparatus for vehicles having steerable front and rear wheels, adapted for controlling the steer angle or rear wheels in response to the operation of the steering wheel for steering the front wheels. The speed with which the steering wheel is turned is detected and compared with a reference value which varies in accordance with changes in a physical amount related to the vehicle velocity. When the speed of operation of the steering wheel is larger than the reference value, a rear wheel steer angle is formed in the counter direction to the direction of the front wheel steer angle, so that the response to the steering input for turning the vehicle is improved. Conversely, when the speed of operation of the steering wheel is smaller than the reference value, a rear wheel steer angle is formed in the same direction as the front wheel steer angle, thus enhancing the stability of the vehicle running straight.
