Abstract: The present disclosure relates to surface-functionalized carbonaceous particles, optionally in agglomerated form, methods for making such surface-functionalized carbonaceous particles and their use, for example as conductive additives in battery electrodes. The surface-functionalized carbonaceous particles are for example obtainable by milling a non-graphitic carbon material, followed by subsequent functionalization through controlled oxidation. The surface-functionalized carbonaceous particles can be used as additive in battery electrodes. The disclosure also pertains to dispersions of such carbonaceous materials in a liquid medium and their use as, among others, conductive coatings. Polymer compounds filled with the surface-functionalized carbonaceous particles are also disclosed.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an agglomerate abrasive grain made up of a plurality of individual abrasive grains which are bonded into an inorganic or organic binder matrix, wherein, based on the total weight of the agglomerate abrasive grain, at least 8% by weight of the abrasive grains which are bonded into the matrix are fused alumina-based polycrystalline alumina abrasive grains with a percentage of more than 97% by weight of alpha-alumina, and wherein the polycrystalline alumina abrasive grains, in turn, are made up of a plurality of Al2O3 primary crystals with a crystal size of between 20 μm and 100 μm. The agglomerate abrasive grain has a closed macroporosity with a pore volume of between 5% by volume and 30% by volume, wherein the average pore diameter of the closed macropores is between 10 μm and 100 μm and their maximum pore diameter is in the range of approx. 120 μm.

Abstract: Mineral additives and a method for operating a waste-to-energy furnace are provided in order to improve its operational performance and availability, increase the lifetime of the combustor building materials (refractory walls and heat-exchanger metallic tubes) and flue gas treatment equipment, improve ash quality, reduce emissions and avoid combustion problems such as agglomeration, slagging, deposition, and corrosion. A method for operating a waste-to-energy furnace, such as a fluidized bed reactor, pulverized-fuel combustor, grate combustor includes introducing mineral additive into the furnace. The method further includes heating at least a portion of the mineral additive either intimately in contact with the fuel, such that the ability of mineral additive to induce crystallization of the surface of forming ashes is enhanced, or minimizing the contact of the mineral additive with the fuel and the forming ashes, such that the solid-gas reactions between the mineral additive and the volatile compounds in the flue gas are favored and the mineral additive power to capture at least a portion of the inorganic volatile compounds present in the furnace is enhanced.
