摘要: A vascular occlusion device deployment system for placing an occlusion device at a preselected site within the vasculature of a patient. The deployment system employing a pusher having a lumen with an opening at the distal end of the pusher. A vascular occlusion device is connected to the distal end of the pusher by a portion that is removeably disposed within the opening. The portion of the occlusion device is forced out of the opening by an expandable reaction chamber, thereby deploying the occlusion device. The expandable reaction chamber, prior to deployment, has multiple chambers separated by a heat-dissolvable membrane. When the membrane is dissolved, components from the chambers react and expand, leading to deployment.

摘要: An implantable medical device detachment system is provided with a carrier member having a compressible portion at a distal end thereof. The compressible portion is moved to a compressed condition to allow an engagement member of the system to releasably engage an implantable device, such as an embolic coil. The carrier member and associated implantable device are fed through a body vessel to a target location, where the device is disengaged from the engagement member. The compressible portion then moves from the compressed condition to an elongated condition to completely separate the implantable device from the engagement member.

摘要: A medical device for placing an embolic device, such as an embolic coil, at a predetermined site within a vessel of the body including a delivery catheter and a flexible pusher member slidably disposed within the lumen of the catheter. An embolic device having a headpiece coupled to the proximal end is releasably disposed within the distal end of the pusher member and retained in place by a retractable fiber, having a coiled distal portion. When the embolic device is advanced to the predetermined site within the vessel, the detachment fiber is retracted from around the headpiece of the embolic device to thereby release the embolic device.

摘要: A generally hollow article for use as or incorporation within a medical instrument navigable through body vessels of a human subject is provided. The article is defined by two metal pieces, such as nitinol and stainless steel, having different performance characteristics. At least a portion of the two pieces are arranged into an alternating pattern and joined together to define a joint or junction. The two pieces may each be provided as a tube having a spiral-cut section that is configured to be intermeshed with the spiral-cut section of the other metal. The article may also include a radiopaque material for improved placement within the body, which material may also be provided as a tube with a spiral-cut section to be intermeshed and joined with the first and second pieces.

摘要: A translumenal approach through a natural body cavity to repair a ventral hernia is provided. In a transgastric approach, the abdominal cavity is accessed via an incision through a wall of the digestive tract. A system for the deployment of tissue anchors to anchor a tissue reinforcing mesh to repair the ventral hernia is provided. Particular tissue anchors are disclosed. In certain embodiments, the tissue anchors include a shaft and a head reconfigurably coupled to the shaft permitting the head and shaft to be in a substantially parallel loaded configuration and in a substantially transverse deployed configuration. In addition, tissue anchors may include biodegradable and non-biodegradable components, with the non-biodegradable component defining spaces for soft tissue ingrowth upon degradation of the biodegradable component.

摘要: A coil device is provided with a stretch resistant feature. The device includes a wound coil defining a lumen and a stretch resistant member at least partially received within the lumen. A headpiece is formed by a joining of the coil and a restrictor member, typically by plasma welding. The restrictor member is also at least partially received within the lumen and defines an aperture adapted to movably receive a portion of the stretch resistant member to allow the wound coil to stretch and elongate. The stretch resistant member includes an enlarged portion that is larger than the aperture and adapted to engage the restrictor member to prevent or resist stretching of the wound coil. The restrictor member may be provided as a separate element fixedly secured to the coil wire, or the coil wire may include one or more minor turns adapted to perform the function of the restrictor member.
