摘要: Apparatus for converting successive stacks of condensed parallel signatures into a single file of signatures which are thereupon processed in a bookbinding machine has a chain conveyor the front portion of which supports and advances an expiring stack of signatures. Successive foremost signatures of the expiring stack are withdrawn by a mechanism which transfers them onto a further conveyor. The horizontal rear portion of the chain conveyor is long enough to support at least one full stack of signatures behind the expiring stack. A fresh stack of signatures is placed onto a platform forming part of a carriage and movable between a raised position in which the platform is located above the rear portion of the chain conveyor to receive a fresh stack and a lower position in which the platform is located below the rear portion of the chain conveyor so that the fresh stack comes to rest on the rear portion. The carriage is movable lengthwise of the rear portion of the chain conveyor to allow for movement of the foremost signature of the fresh stack into abutment with the rearmost signature of the expiring stack before the platform is lowered to allow for return movement of the carriage to a retracted position in which the platform can be lifted again to receive another fresh stack of signatures.

摘要: A vessel is adapted to contain a liquid phase and a tubular guide baffle in the vessel has spaced open ends one of which at least in part bounds a venturi-shaped passage. A rotary impeller in the vessel has an axial inlet communicating with the one open end and a plurality of peripheral outlets which communicate with the axial inlet. A drive is provided for rotating the impeller so that centrifugal action causes expulsion of liquid phase from the outlets and thereby creates suction in the venturi-shaped passage to draw additional liquid phase from the guide baffle into the inlet. Gas admitting arrangements are provided, including a plurality of nipples communicating with the passage and with a conduit through which gas is supplied, so that the suction in the venturi-shaped passage draws gas from the source via the conduit and the nipples and the gas becomes admixed with the liquid phase.

摘要: Two receiving conveyors of the station extend at opposite sides of the longitudinal axis of an intake conveyor and have their own longitudinal axes inclined to that of the intake conveyor so as to intersect the same at a point longitudinally spaced from all of these conveyors. A curved intermediate conveyor extends from the discharge end of the intake conveyor to the receiving end of the receiving conveyor and is pivotable about a vertical pivot axis passing through this point. A drive advances the intake and receiving conveyors and drives coupling members which are provided on the receiving conveyor and which can engage with cooperating coupling members on the intermediate conveyor.

摘要: A microorganism is cultivated with a liquid-containing culture medium so as to obtain a protein-containing cellular product. The latter is then recovered from the culture medium. Thereafter, the liquid portion of the culture medium is treated so as to obtain a first fraction which contains proteins and a second fraction which is substantially free of proteins and contains an active substance or active substances. The treatment of the liquid portion of the culture medium may include ultrafiltration, filtration through a molecular sieve, precipitation or solvent extraction. The active substances present in the second fraction may include growth factors and growth inhibitors for the microorganism. Certain of these growth factors and growth inhibitors are useful in the cultivation of green plants and the second fraction may be utilized for this purpose. On the other hand, all or part of the second fraction may be recycled for use in the cultivation of the microorganism. Aside from the recovery of active substances which is achieved by separating the liquid portion of the culture medium into first and second fractions, there is achieved the result that water pollution due to discharge of the culture medium may be reduced since the biochemical oxygen demand of the culture medium is decreased by removal of the proteins therefrom, that is, by recovering the protein content of the culture medium as a separate fraction.

摘要: An upright vessel for the liquid phase has a cylindrical baffle located in it extending upwardly from the lower region of the vessel. The baffle has a lower open end at which an impeller is located and an upper open end which is formed with a constriction. A member provided with passages through which the gaseous phase is discharged, is located in the constriction so that the passages discharge the gaseous phase at the narrowest cross-section of an annular clearance formed between the constriction and the member.

摘要: Processes for the production of essentially solid nutriments and fodders containing a high content of proteins by the cultivation of a yeast on a liquid culture medium consisting of whey containing at least a substantial portion of its original soluble proteins and thereafter separating from the resulting brew the solids consisting of yeast cells and the original soluble proteins or products of the original soluble proteins by means of an ultrafilter provided with one or more membranes that are essentially impervious to soluble proteins and subsequently drying the said solids. The preliminary separation of the soluble proteins from the whey by centrifugal separation or by ultrafiltration, as described in the prior art, is avoided. In such prior ultrafiltration processes, the membranes of the ultrafilter become clogged with the soluble proteins, thereby retarding and ultimately stopping the filtration. The brew that is produced in accordance with the processes of the present invention which contains yeast cells together with the original soluble proteins or products thereof can be separated in an ultrafilter at a faster rate than the soluble proteins could have been preliminarily separated from the whey and the ultrafilter membranes do not become clogged with the solids that are thus separated.

摘要: An arrangement performs backlining or headbanding of a spine of a book block conveyed on a conveying section of a book production line through a backlining station. A feeding device feeds backlining material in a transfer direction perpendicular to a book block conveying direction. A unit includes a cross cutter to cut the backlining material into backlining sections, a transfer mechanism to transfer the backlining sections onto the book block spine, and a support table to support the backlining section being transferred onto the book block spine. A guide element is disposed above and at a distance to a book block spine in a production position, which guide element is advanced to bridge the book production line to transfer the backlining material through the book production line to allow at least one of outfitting or retrofitting of the backlining station.
