Abstract: Systems and methods for network functions virtualization (NFV)-management and orchestration (MANO) are provided where a virtualized network function (VNF)-forwarding graph (FG) including a plurality of VNFs is generated based on a customer request. The plurality of VNFs are instantiated at corresponding NFV infrastructure (NFVI)-points of presence (PoPs). A network service (NS) request including the generated VNF-FG may be constructed and added to a NS catalog.

Abstract: An embodiment of a method for network resource management comprises performing joint traffic engineering and physical layer power control on a controller and using a routing and power control optimization process that comprises a combined alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) process and a power management process. First and second commands are generated at the controller according to optimization parameters determined by the routing and power control optimization process. The first and second commands are transmitted from the controller to nodes connected to the controller. The first commands are for modifying transmission parameters for links between nodes and the second commands are for modifying transmission parameters for connections between nodes and user devices.

Abstract: Aspects of this disclosure provide techniques for dynamically configuring flow splitting via software defined network (SDN) signaling instructions. An SDN controller may instruct an ingress network node to split a traffic flow between two or more egress paths, and instruct the ingress network node, and perhaps downstream network nodes, to transport portions of the traffic flow in accordance with a forwarding protocol. In one example, the SDN controller instructs the network nodes to transport portions of the traffic flow in accordance with a link-based forwarding protocol. In other examples, the SDN controller instructs the network nodes to transport portions of the traffic flow in accordance with a path-based or source-based transport protocol.

Abstract: An embodiment method for network optimization includes obtaining a first request to deliver a first data to a node in a network at a first data rate; obtaining a second request to deliver the first data to the node at a second data rate; and determining a flow decision schedule for a streaming session. The determining the flow decision schedule includes: scheduling a steady-state delivery period to deliver the first data at a steady-state data rate in accordance with the first data rate; and performing a best-effort allocation in accordance with the second data rate to determine a schedule for a supplemental delivery period, concurrent with at least a portion of the steady-state delivery period, to deliver the first data at a supplemental data rate.

The path management may be in conjunction with user equipment mobility management operation; it may also be in conjunction with network scalability and automation operation, such as load balancing.

Abstract: A method and system for machine type communication (MTC) service management using network function virtualization (NFV) is disclosed. In an embodiment, a method for a machine type communication (MTC) service management using a virtual network function (VNF) includes receiving, by a virtual serving gateway (v-s-SGW), a request for an MTC service from a MTC device through a radio node associated with the MTC device; sending, by the v-s-SGW, an authentication request to an MTC server to authenticate the MTC device; receiving, by the v-s-SGW, an authentication response from the MTC server; and establishing, by the v-s-SGW, an MTC bearer between the v-s-SGW and the radio node if the authentication is successful; wherein the v-s-SGW comprises a virtual connection management (v-CM) and a serving gateway (s-SGW).

Abstract: A network includes network components configured to perform a method for on-demand radio coordination. The method includes determining a congested radio node in a plurality of radio nodes in the network in response to congestion information received from a network device. The method includes generating a cluster of radio nodes associated with the congested radio node. The method also includes optimizing radio resources of the radio nodes in the cluster to produce cluster optimization results configured to alleviate congestion of the congested radio node. The method further includes transmitting the cluster optimization results to the radio nodes in the cluster to alleviate the congestion.
