    摘要: An apparatus or system for data communications that provides crosstalk cancellation is disclosed. The apparatus or system removes crosstalk interference (e.g., NEXT interference) from received signals on a given line by adaptively estimating the crosstalk interference induced by certain other of the lines having interfering transmissions and by canceling the crosstalk interference using the estimated crosstalk interference from the certain other of the lines. The invention is useful for high speed data transmissions where crosstalk interference can be a substantial impediment to proper reception of data. In particular, the invention is useful for VDSL and ADSL data transmissions using multicarrier modulation (e.g., DMT), wherein transmission frames for all lines are synchronized but the duration of the direction of transmission can vary due to differing frames.

    摘要: A transmission system includes transmit and receive paths coupled via a hybrid circuit to a bidirectional transmission path. The transmit path includes a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) having a given range and precision. The transmit path signal is limited and truncated to this range and precision before the DAC. In one arrangement including an echo canceller coupled between the transmit and receive paths, a difference of the transmit path signal before and after limiting and truncation is used to produce an estimated echo response which is subtracted from the receive path signal. In another arrangement, all of the inputs to the echo canceller are derived from the transmit path after the limiting and truncation. Instead, or in addition, the amplitudes of transmit path signal samples can be shaped in conjunction with the limiting. The system can in particular be an ADSL transmission system using multicarrier modulation. In such a system the amplitudes of transmit path signal samples can be scaled to reduce clipping, with an indication of the scaling being transmitted to a remote receiver.

    摘要: Adaptive FEC coding is used to adjust the codeword composition of FEC codewords in a communication system. A codeword composition ratio may be adjusted in response to variance of a measured transmission error value from a target transmission error value in the system. The codeword composition ratio may be any quantity or value that represents the relation between the payload and parity bytes in the applicable FEC coding scheme. Adjustment of the codeword composition ratio may be adjusting parameters such as the N, K and/or R values in ADSL1 systems or the INP and/or maximum interleaving delay values in ADSL2 systems. A controller may be used to monitor, analyze and adjust the various values used in adaptively managing FEC coding. The present invention may be implemented in a transmission system in which a transmitter transmits data to a receiver via a transmission channel, such as a DSL system.
