Abstract:
An exercise apparatus includes a set of guide links pivotally supported thereupon. Each guide link supports a foot link at one end thereof. A control member engages each foot link and the apparatus also includes a reciprocating assembly which engages and reciprocates the control members so as to move the associated foot links up and down as the guide links pivot back and forth. This produces an overall elliptical motion in each of the foot links.
Abstract:
An exercise device includes a frame having a set of guide links pivotally supported thereupon. Each guide link supports a foot engaging link at one end thereof. The guide links are reciprocated back and forth by a set of intermediate links which engage a set of cranks which rotate about a second pivot point. A control link joins the foot link to the intermediate link and operates to vary the angle between the guide links and the foot links, as the guide links reciprocate. This device provides a very natural running and stepping action for a user who is positioned on the foot links.
Abstract:
A tracking device for a golf club, which requires no electrical power source, is comprised of a body of fiberoptic material which is affixed to an exterior surface of the golf club. The fiberoptic material gathers ambient light along its length, and directs that light, through internal reflection, so as to cause it to exit at an end. The illumination provides a bright spot on the head of the golf club which traces the path of the moving club. The fiberoptic material may include a fluorescent dopant which absorbs light of short wavelength and converts that absorbed light to emitted light of a longer wavelength. Use of the fluorescent dopant enhances the intensity of the light emitted from the device.

Abstract:
A rescue vest is provided with a pocket extending along the spine area in the back of the vest. A thin, flat, elongated stiffener is removably positioned in the pocket and a head support and protector is removably positioned on the upper end of the stiffener. The vest can be positioned on and strapped to a person's torso, with the stiffener being used to immobilize the person's spine and neck. The vest may be positioned on the person without the stiffener and the stiffener then inserted into the vest. Groin straps attached to the lower portion of the vest enable a person to be lifted by means of the vest. Thus, without the stiffener, the vest may be used for lifting or lowering a rescuer.
Abstract:
An electronic program schedule system with access to both stored television program schedule information and data feeds containing status information for live programs such as sporting events. The system includes a data processor for receiving program schedule information for a plurality of programs and data feeds containing status information for certain of the programs, and a video display generator for generating a display signal simultaneously comprising information from both the stored schedule information and the received data feed. The system is further provided with user control means such as a remote controller for generating user control commands and transmitting signals to the data processor in response thereto so as to control the content of the display signal. The display signal may be displayed on a display apparatus such as a television receiver. In addition, the program schedule system of the present invention utilizes category-specific user interfaces providing access to multiple services including television programs, received data feeds, home shopping services, and video games as well as the stored program schedule information.
Abstract:
A system and methods through which incoming calls to and/or outgoing calls from a telephone can be controlled. The present invention utilizes an authorized caller list to determine whether an incoming call should be connected, and a similar list to determine whether an outgoing call should be connected. The present invention can also facilitate the use of new telephone user interfaces, including by iterating through telephone numbers associated with a contact, until communications with the contact are established.
Abstract:
A land-based or mobile phone and methods are provided for receiving inbound communications as either voice or text, and then based on the user's configuration settings, the inbound communication is provided to the user as it was received or is automatically converted into a format that is desired by the user. The phone also takes voice or text that is input by the user of the phone and converts the user's input to either voice or text based on the configuration settings stored in the user's contact list or otherwise. The outbound communication is configured according to how the intended recipient wants to receive a communication based on the configuration settings stored in the user's contact list or otherwise. The phone includes a controller that determines how the phone will handle and process inbound and outbound communications. The controller includes a speech recognition engine.
Abstract:
A surgical screw cartridge system apparatus and method is provided wherein the cartridge has a body for storing a plurality of surgical screws. A spring-biased plunger is positioned within the body for presenting the surgical screws head first to a driver. A tab within the body prevents removal of the surgical screws from the body in absence of a screwdriver.
Abstract:
The present invention is related to methods of detecting protein-protein interactions in living cells, as well as detecting the formation and/or inhibition of protein-protein interactions in cells.
