If the number of cell IDs is to be increased, the number of cell ID groups related to a secondary synchronization channel is increased in a manner that removes ambiguity and collision, a cell ID related to a primary synchronization channel is added, which satisfies conjugate symmetry, information is transmitted based on a transmission timing relationship between a primary synchronization code and a secondary synchronization code, or a scrambling scheme is modified. When a part of the existing cell IDs are reserved, conjugate symmetry is also considered in relation to a primary synchronization channel and ambiguity and collision are also considered in relation to a secondary synchronization channel.

A method for transmitting a synchronization channel using multi-antenna is disclosed. In a method for transmitting a synchronization channel for using a synchronization channel as a phase reference when decoding a broadcast channel, the method includes using a pre-decided shift value for each antenna, wherein the shift value is pre-decided with a user equipment, so as to apply circular shifts to sequences of the synchronization channel, and transmitting the sequences having the circular shifts applied thereto from a base station to the user equipment. Herein, space frequency/time block codes (SFBC/STBC) may be applied to the broadcast channel. In performing time/frequency domain synchronization in the synchronization channel, regardless of the number of transmission antennae used by the base station when transmitting signals, the synchronization process may be performed. Also, multi-antenna gain may be obtained when transmitting the synchronization channel. Furthermore, channel estimation may be performed for each antenna, and by applying transmission diversity methods to the BCH/control channel/data channel and so on, the performance of the present invention may also be enhanced.

A method of transmitting a wideband frame for a wideband system having backward compatibility with a narrowband system includes configuring a wideband carrier by using a set of base carriers, wherein a bandwidth of the base carriers corresponds to a bandwidth of the narrowband system and any one of center frequencies of the base carriers is the same as a center frequency of the narrowband system, and allocating all or some of guard subcarriers between the two adjacent base carriers to a traffic channel when a center frequency spacing between two adjacent base carriers is an integer multiple of a subcarrier spacing. Accordingly, the method can be used to support backward compatibility with the narrowband system. Further, the method can be equally used when the narrowband system co-exists with the wideband system in a guard band defined in a narrowband of a new system.
