Abstract:
A piece of furniture (10) includes a rectangular frame (12) for supporting a plurality of sinuous springs (20). A plurality of clip assemblies (18) are secured to opposed side walls (14) of frame (12). Each clip assembly (18) comprises a non-metallic piece (22) having openings (40) and a metallic piece having tacks (42) extending through the openings (40) for insertion into the frame (12). Flexible connectors (38) may be located in grooves (36) of the clip assembly (18) to collate multiple clip assemblies (18).
Abstract:
A seating unit that includes a linkage mechanism adapted to adjust between closed, extended, and reclined positions is provided. The linkage mechanism includes a seat-mounting plate mounted to a footrest assembly, a back-mounting link and a rear bellcrank both rotatably coupled to the seat-mounting plate, an activator bar that controls a footrest drive link, and a linear actuator for carrying out automated adjustment of the linkage assembly. In operation, a stroke in a first phase of the linear actuator generates a torque on the activator bar. The footrest drive link converts the torque into a laterally-directed force that pushes the footrest assembly into the extended position. A stroke in the second phase acts to push the activator bar forward and translate the seat-mounting plate forward at a consistent inclination angle. The forward translation causes the rear bellcrank to rotate, thereby biasing the back-mounting link rearward into the reclined position.
Abstract:
Provided is a linkage mechanism for a recliner that includes a seat-mounting plate, a base plate vertically supported by high-legs, a footrest assembly adapted to extend ottoman(s) forward when the recliner is adjusted from a closed to an extended position, and a seat-adjustment assembly. The seat-adjustment assembly includes an ottoman drive link that has a front end pivotably coupled to the footrest assembly and a rear end pivotably coupled to a mid section of a connecting link. The connecting link further includes a front end rotatably coupled to a forward portion of the base plate and a rear end rotatably coupled to a lower end of a rear pivot link. The rear pivot link further includes an upper end that is pivotably coupled to a rearward portion of the seat-mounting plate. The combined operation of three links above locates the seat-adjustment assembly above the base plate's lower edge during adjustment.
Abstract:
A screening for separating a protected area from a more accessible area includes a plurality of vertical supports with panels retained between the supports. The upper or lower ends of the panel are retained on pivot pins while the end of the panel opposite the pivot pins is removably locked to the support. The locking structure includes a latch that can be released from a position outside the enclosure and a lock that is lockable and unlockable from inside the enclosure. When the lock is actuated, the latch cannot be unlatched until the lock is subsequently unlocked.
Abstract:
An automated flanging machine is provided. More specifically, a machine for automatically sewing a flange onto a work panel having a consistent corner radius and a straight edge is provided. The machine has a table adapted to support a work panel, a sewing head mounted directly adjacent to the table for performing a sewing operation on the work panel, a turning arm mounted adjacent to the table, and a rear conveyor for selectively moving the work panel on the table. The table may include a corner pivot mechanism for stabilizing the panel while the turning arm turns the panel 90 degree relative to an initial position, and for maintaining a consistent corner radius for sewing. The machine may also include a rear material guide and encoding arm for measuring the progression of the work panel as it is sewn along a side by the sewing head.
Abstract:
A method of making a multi-layer border for use in a bedding product, such as a mattress, is disclosed. The layers are secured together without the use of heat, thereby enabling the process to be stopped and started as desired without the worry of burning the materials. Pressure is applied to the multi-layered material in the form of pinch rollers to secure the layers together. One of the layers comprises an outer ticking material. As many layers of foam and/or fiber as desired may be included, provided a layer of doubled-sided adhesive is sandwiched between adjacent layers. A backing may comprise the innermost layer.
Abstract:
A mechanism for securing a mattress on an automated bed is provided. More particularly, the invention relates to a mattress-retention mechanism for preventing a mattress from moving towards the foot end of a bed during articulation. The mattress-retention mechanism includes a mattress-support structure adapted to support a corner of a mattress, with a portion of the mattress-support structure having a curved interior surface. The mattress-support mechanism also includes a foundation attachment surface for removably attaching the mattress-retention mechanism to the top of a mattress foundation, where the foundation attachment surface is perpendicular to the curved interior surface. The mechanism may include a bedding aperture on the side of the mattress-support structure to accommodate bedding inserted through the bedding aperture. Further, the mechanism may include a side attachment surface for removably attaching the mattress-retention mechanism to a vertical side of the mattress foundation.
Abstract:
A tilt mechanism (10) for a chair comprises a base (11), a back bracket (12) configured to support a chair back (4) and a coupling arrangement (16, 25) configured to couple the back bracket (12) to the base (11). The coupling arrangement comprises a guide track (25) and a guide member (16). One of the guide track (25) and the guide member (16) is provided on a portion of the back bracket (12) extending from a back attaching portion (23) to a pivot coupling portion (24) at which the back bracket (12) may be articulated to a chair seat (3). The other one of the guide track (25) and the guide member (16) is provided on the base (11). When the coupling arrangement (16, 25) couples the back bracket (12) to the base (11), pivoting the back bracket (12) about the pivot coupling portion (24) causes the guide member (16) and the guide track (25) to be displaced relative to each other, effecting a displacement of the pivot coupling portion (24) relative to the base (11).
Abstract:
A mattress age indicating device includes an enclosure, and an indicating assembly contained within the enclosure. The age indicating device may be configured to present an indication related to the mattress's age and may be coupled to the mattress or other bedding or seating product.
Abstract:
A system and method for incorporating presence-sensing technology into furniture is provided. More particularly, the invention relates to detecting presence using a metal, adjustable bed frame. The bed frame is pulsed with a voltage to provide a charge, against which capacitance is measured. A controller determines the corresponding response based on presence detection by the frame. Conductive bushings may also be used to measure capacitance using the bed frame. In further embodiments, capacitance is measured by a foil tape surrounding a perimeter of the adjustable bed. The foil tape has a voltage based on proximity of an object to the tape, and may be embedded with a capacitive wire. A processor receives information regarding changes in capacitance and determines when a change in voltage satisfies a threshold. Based on a determination of presence, or lack of presence, a variety of corresponding features of the adjustable bed may be activated.
