A probe is operatively connected to the transducer for transmitting vibrations generated by the transducer to an operative site in a patient. A switching device is mounted to the handpiece and is operatively connected to the circuit and the transducer for enabling the supply of power to the transducer during a motion of the probe in a preselected direction relative to the handpiece and for disabling the supply of power to the transducer upon a termination of motion of the probe in the preselected direction.

    摘要: An ultrasonic surgical instrument assembly has a base, a rigid probe shaft coupled at a proximal end to the base, a probe head at a distal end of the shaft, and a sheath having a rigid distal end portion surrounding the shaft. The shaft has a longitudinal axis and is operatively connectable to a source of ultrasonic vibrational energy. The head extends eccentrically in a transverse direction to one side of the shaft, the head having an operative tip or surface spaced laterally from the axis. The distal end portion of the sheath is provided in a side wall with an aperture, and the probe head is aligned with the aperture. The sheath is coupled at a proximal end to the base and is provided with a partially flexible section between the distal end portion of the sheath and the instrument assembly base, so that the distal end portion is pivotably deflectable transversely to the axis in response to a lateral force applied to the distal end portion, to enable an increased protrusion of the head through the aperture.

    摘要: An ultrasonic surgical tool comprises a substantially planar blade body having a pair of opposed lateral surfaces and a cutting edge. A shank integral on a distal side with the blade body is provided at a proximal side with a connector for operatively linking the blade to a source of ultrasonic mechanical vibrations. The blade body is provided in at least one of the lateral surfaces with a shallow recess which is nearly coextensive with that lateral surface. The blade body has a raised rim surrounding and defining the recess, the rim being narrow on the three sides between the recess and the cutting edge.

    摘要: An ultrasonic osteotome in accordance with the present invention comprises a shaft having a distal end portion with a lateral outer surface and further comprises a cutting blade connected to the distal end portion of the shaft at least in part at the lateral outer surface. The lateral outer surface extends so far on opposite sides of the blade as to block or stop penetration of the shaft into an incision formed in bone tissue by the blade. The blade can include a cutting notch or have a variable cutting depth depending on the angle of the distal end of the instrument to the surface of a target tissue mass.

    摘要: An ultrasonic surgical instrument includes an elongate substantially rigid probe and an elongate tubular sheath member. The probe is operatively connected at a proximal end to a source of ultrasonic mechanical vibrations and has a distal tip configured for transmitting ultrasonic vibration energy into organic tissues. The probe longitudinally traverses the sheath member. The sheath member has a distal edge with a first portion on one side of the probe and a second portion on an opposite side of the probe. The first portion of the distal edge of the sheath member is disposed substantially closer than the second portion of the sheath's distal edge to the distal tip of the probe. The second portion of the distal edge is so spaced from the distal tip as to permit effective visualization of the distal tip during use of the instrument.
