Abstract:
A method for creating a faux finish on a surface using an apparatus (100) that has a dual roller handle (110), a pair of roller covers (120, 124) each mounted for independent rotation, and at least one raised foam pattern (122, 126) on each roller cover. In one embodiment, the raised foam pattern is a nonrepresentational design (136) that is sized, shaped and positioned on each roller cover to create smoothly contoured edges (137) and a non-uniform gap (135) between adjacent edges of the raised foam pattern. When two paints having at least one different visually perceptible characteristic are respectively applied to the surface by the roller covers using the handle in an overlapping and arcing motion, a faux marble finish results from the effect of the edges of the raised foam pattern on the paint discharged to the surface by the raised foam pattern. In another embodiment, the raised foam pattern is a representative design that is used in the same manner to provide a faux texture finish.
Abstract:
A paint roller includes a core tube having first and second opposite axial ends. At least one tuftstring is spirally wrapped around the core tube and adhesively or otherwise bound to the core tube.
Abstract:
In a paint roller having an inner core with an outer annular surface and a radially resilient, substantially cylindrical paint roller medium extending around and affixed to the inner core for rotation therewith, the improvement wherein the outer medium has a substantially uniform outer diameter and comprises a base of resilient porous material, and a distribution of non-porous material which masks portions of the base. Preferably the distribution of non-porous material is random.
Abstract:
A paint applicator has a paint-impervious backing such as a cylindrical core to which is adhered a resilient reticulated reservoir such as an open-cell polyurethane foam. Covering the reservoir is a flexible reticulated metering layer that is not bonded to the reservoir except at crossing points of the reticulations. The applicator better releases paint and is more easily cleaned as compared to prior paint applicators having pile fabric coverings. In addition to paint rolls, other types of paint applicators such as paint pads and paint mittens can employ the same composite of a reticulated reservoir and reticulated metering layer.
Abstract:
A concrete-finishing roller tool produces a desired texture using a simple operation, independent of a remote power source. A hollow cylindrical roller body incorporates randomly spaced protrusions or nubs on its surface. The protrusions have a substantially crystalline structure to emulate grains of salt for use in texturing freshly-poured concrete. A U-shaped frame rotatably engages the roller body, with a female socket member to receive a separate pole handle for remote manipulation thereof. Evenly-distributed concrete filler ensures that the roller body exerts a constant pressure to produce an even texturing pattern on a concrete surface. Alternatively, the roller body comprises a container member and a removable cap member that threadably engage each other, allowing a user to deposit a desired amount of sand therein to adjust the pressure that the roller body exerts. The concrete-finishing roller tool also eliminates concrete debris accumulation with a roller irrigation system to help prevent the drying of concrete debris on the roller body and a broom attachment that brushes off concrete debris that accumulates on the roller body during use. An alternative embodiment is a one-sided axle support system for the roller body that affords its use on the side edges of concrete surfaces, which are not accessible by other embodiments of the invention, thereby guaranteeing a complete concrete pattern finish.
Abstract:
A texturing roller for applying drywall mud or plaster to a flat surface such as a wall or ceiling in a texturing pattern, which roller includes a roller cylinder fitted with random holes and multiple leather discs crowded onto the roller cylinder by rivets which extend through the discs and the holes and are expanded in place by a riveting tool. The roller cylinder is designed to mount on a conventional roller frame and handle normally fitted with a disposable paint cylinder used for painting flat or textured surfaces.
Abstract:
An elastic sheet having many kinds of shapes is secured upon the surface of a roller so as to form a combination roller which can create a painted pattern when the roller is rotated such that the paint is thrown onto a surface to be painted by means of centrifugal force whereby the spray splashed thereby creates a pattern. A pattern having different thicknesses of paints and widths of lines can thus be created as a unit of a predetermined repetitive pattern.
Abstract:
A paint roller is comprised of a thermoplastic tubular core and a cover fabric heat-fused thereto without an intermediate adhesive. The fabric is wound around the core in a helical path, and the core is heat-softened in the zone of winding to fuse the fabric to the core as it is wound thereon.
Abstract:
A paint roller for producing texture paint surfaces having a cylindrical core with a paint applying and texturing cover bonded to the outer surface of the cylindrical core. The paint applying and texturing cover is an open web of interengaged continuous crinkled coarse filaments of resilient material. The open loops of the open web carry the texture paint material, apply it to the surface being painted, and texture it in essentially a single motion. During application, the loop elements are actually immersed in the texture paint material and lift it into peaks, thereby producing deeper textures than has generally been possible in the past.
Abstract:
A method of fabricating a paint roller cover or similar applicator fabricated partially from animal pelt, such as sheepskin or other like shrinkable material, comprising the steps of forming a sleeve of the shrinkable material, providing an internal core about which the sleeve is embraced, and heat shrinking the sleeve onto the core. The sleeve can be overlapped about at least one end of the core and heat shrunk thereto for applying paint along adjoining corner surfaces.
