摘要:
An impact printer with a hammerbank having print hammers retained by a permanent magnet for impacting a print ribbon, and a mechanical driver for moving the hammerbank across print media. First and second coils for each hammer are wrapped around first and second pole pieces, one of which is asymmetrical to the other pole piece. One of the pole pieces can have a generally elongated longitudinal form with the coil wound around the longitudinal form and the other can have a generally arcuate form, with the coil wrapped on a portion between the ends thereof. The coil wrapped around the arcuately formed pole piece is thicker than the coil wrapped around the longitudinal pole piece. The result is to provide pole pieces and coils for an impact printer having differing spatial relationships that can be staggered, or formed asymmetrically for more compact coil and pole piece placement to improve printer efficiency.

A needle printing head comprising a support (11) able to axially guide a plurality of printing needles (15), each of which has one end attached to a mobile armature (16) of a corresponding actuation electromagnet (17) having a ferromagnetic core (18) provided with polar extensions. A separation element (30) is interposed between the mobile armatures (16) and the corresponding polar extensions. The separation element (30) is made of a metal material and comprises elements (33, 34) able to reduce the effects of the eddy currents which are generated by the energizing of every electromagnet (17).

An electromechanical actuator has a stack composed of electromechanical elements, and an inactive element intervening in the stack to divide it into two sections. In a wire-dot printing head using the actuator, the stack sections are successively energized to increase a forward stroke of a printing wire for a high speed printing. In another aspect, an electromechanical actuator used in a wire-dot printer has a spring for regulating and braking a rearward stroke of a printing wire or a stopper such that the wire can be prevented from being moved back beyond an initial position. Alternatively, a stopper is incorporated to forcibly stop the wire at the initial position during the rearward stroke thereof. In yet another aspect, an electromechanical actuator has a stack composed of electromechanical elements, and the stack is supported by a block through a leaf spring securely joined therebetween to prevent generation of large stress in the stack.

Resiliency of a flat spring 7 corresponding to an end print wire 12 is set to be greater than that corresponding to a central print wire 12 by varying width of an effective spring portion 7b of a flat spring piece 7A to which an armature 13 is attached depending on positions of corresponding tips of the print wires 12. Distance between a magnet yoke 5 and a core 15 provided between the flat spring 7 and a permanent magnet 4 at a position corresponding to a central print wire 12 side is set to be smaller than that at a position corresponding to an end print wire 12 side by varying it depending on positions of corresponding tips of the print wires 12.

A controller for a dot impact printer has capacitance sensors for sensing the motion of the dot wires in the print head, and a non-volatile, rewritable memory for storing self-adjustment data relating to dot-wire characteristics. A processor controls the driving of the dot wires according to the self-adjustment data stored in the memory. At certain times, the processor causes the dot wires to be driven in a test sequence and updates the self-adjustment data in the memory according to the resulting sensor output. Print quality is thereby maintained for the full guaranteed life of the print head.

The specification sets forth a hammerspring for a dot matrix printer having a plurality of such hammersprings spaced along a hammerbank with permanent magnetics to draw said hammersprings into a retracted and uniformly stressed mode through a spring portion which are released by overcoming the magnetic retention, the hammerspring formed with a base portion connected to the hammerbank with a spring portion extending from said base portion having a decreasing transverse cross sectional area extending to an enlarged end portion for improved magnetic retention against said permanent magnets.

A printer including an impact dot print head for driving a plurality of print wires mounted on the cantilevered end of print levers is provided. The print head includes a stopper positioned to be impacted by a print lever returning from a print position to an at rest position before a plunger on the lever impacts the magnetic core. A spring mounted on the lever biases it towards the print position. Magnetic flux of a permanent magnet attracts the plunger to the non-print position. An electromagnetic coil is energized to cancel the magnetic attraction of the plunger to the core to drive the wire towards the print position.

A spring charge type wire dot printing head includes front cores 35 and rear cores 36 that are disposed in circles. The front and rear cores are used in pairs, and either one of these paired cores is wound with a coil 39 or 40. Since the inductance of the coils 39 and 40 can be increased, low electric current and low electric power consumption can be realized.

Aerodynamic damper for impact printing actuator in which a movable armature of a magnetic circuit has to resume, after actuation, with minimum rebounding and oscillations, a stable rest position defined by the contact of a flat surface of the armature with a flat surface of a stop element, consisting in a recess formed of at least one of the two flat surfaces and having peripheral side walls slanted as to the flat surface.

An impact dot print head for printing without impact noise when returning to the non-printed position includes a base. An arm is mounted for movement between a non-print position and a print position. A print wire is mounted on the arm. A first device selectively drives the arm towards the print position by bias or magnetic force. A second device returns the arm to the non-print position and maintains the arm at that position without causing the arm to impact any member of the print head when returning to the print position. The second device uses balanced magnetic attraction or repulsion and/or bias forces to hold the arm out of contact with other parts of the printer other than at its point of mounting when at the non-print position.
