Abstract: A method for routing IP packets with IPSec AH authentication is disclosed. The method includes locating overlay edge routers between private domains and their associated NAT routers. Outbound packets from a source private domain are modified by its overlay edge router to include IPSec AH authorization data computed using IP source and destination addresses that match a packet's final source and destination IP address upon final NAT translation immediately prior to delivery to a host of a destination private domain.

Abstract: Methods and systems for managing authorized data flows using software defined networking include receiving flow criteria sent from a firewall and extracted from a first data packet, determining whether flow criteria of the first data packet matches an entry in a master data flow list, inserting the flow criteria from the first data packet into the master data flow list on a software defined networking controller, and sending the flow criteria of the first data packet to the router. The router may forward a second data packet associated with the data flow toward a destination based on the validation of the first data packet by the firewall. The flow criteria may not match an entry in a router data flow list on the router and may include at least two of: a source IP address, a destination IP address, a destination port, and a protocol of transmission.

Abstract: A method is provided in one example embodiment and includes receiving at a network element a packet associated with a flow and determining whether a flow cache of the network element includes an entry for the flow indicating a classification for the flow. The method further includes, if the network element flow cache does not include an entry for the flow, punting the packet over a default path to a classifying service function, in which the classifying service function classifies the flow and determines a control plane service function for handling the flow, and receiving from the classifying service function a service path identifier (“SPI”) of a service path leading to the determined control plane service function. The flow is subsequently offloaded from the classifying service function to the network element.

Abstract: In example implementations, a method includes a software defined network (SDN) controller that selects an encryption key. The SDN controller then sends a first instruction to a source node to modify a flow table of the source node to include an action that includes the encryption key. A second instruction is sent by the SDN controller to a destination node to modify a flow table of the destination node to include an action that includes the encryption key. The SDN controller can then control a data packet that is encrypted by the source node with the encryption key to be sent from the source node to the destination node, wherein the data packet is to be decrypted with the encryption key by the destination node.

Abstract: A system, which uses the internet to deliver time sensitive information, includes an overlay node, having a plurality of overlay nodes, which are used to deliver the time sensitive information. To better characterize the connection between a sending node and a receiving node, the sending node periodically requests each overlay node in the path between the sending node and the receiving node to force a retransmission of a packet, while also forwarding that same packet to the next overlay node. In this way, the delay associated with each link in the path can be quantified and recorded by the receiving node. Based on the observed transmission delays, the receiving node may determine an optimal buffer time. This buffer time is the amount of buffering performed at the receiving node prior to outputting the time sensitive information.
