Abstract:
Multiple enhancements are provided to a smart copy function of an imaging device to improve performance by making it operate in a time efficient manner. The enhancements include determining pre-positioning of the scan bar based upon the content type setting in the user interface. The smart copy function is also enhanced by determining when to implement and implementing a second pre-scan at a higher resolution when misidentification occurs. Another enhancement uses original size and edge to edge properties to determine content of the original document, which then allows optimal selection of the final copy scan and print parameters.
Abstract:
An image scanning apparatus includes a scanning section which scans an object opposite to a linear scanning area along a main scanning direction while moving the scanning area along a subscanning direction intersecting the main scanning direction. The scanning section generates image data on the basis of the result of the scanning. A control unit of the scanning section includes a first image acquiring section that acquires first image data by making the scanning section execute scanning at a first subscanning resolution. The control unit also has a pattern searching section that searches the first image data for the image of the predetermined pattern. A second image acquiring section of the control unit acquires second image data in such a manner that when the image of the predetermined pattern is not detected by the pattern searching section.
Abstract:
Systems and methods using an orientation/position-sensitive calibration pattern for three-dimensional calibration of an imaging system, such as one used in a process for scanning documents are disclosed. The method generally includes positioning the pattern on a support, capturing images using cameras to be calibrated, each image containing at least a unique orientation and position sensitive sub-area of the pattern, determining a set of coordinate pairs of corresponding points in the image and the pattern for each image utilizing image data and pattern information, and performing optimization utilizing the sets of coordinate pairs to calibrate relative position, orientation, zoom, and/or lens distortion, etc. of each camera so as to construct a three-dimensional camera calibration model. The pattern is generally comprised of overlapping sub-areas of a minimum portion of the pattern.
Abstract:
A scanner including a casing, a scanning platform, a scanning module and a positioning plate is provided. The scanning platform is embedded in the casing and exposes a surface to carry a to-be-scanned document. The scanning module is disposed under the scanning platform. The positioning plate disposed on an inner wall of the casing is adjacent to a top side of the scanning platform. The scanning module is for capturing images of the positioning plate and the inner wall and for identifying the image corresponding to one x-axis side of the positioning plate. The scanner defines a scanning start line according to the image corresponding to the x-axis side. The scanning module is moved from the scanning start line along a y-axis direction and captures an image of the to-be-scanned document. The x-axis side and the scanning start line are perpendicular to the y-axis direction perpendicular to the top side.
Abstract:
The invention provides an adjustment jig provided with a pattern for adjusting the direction of a reading line of a scanner which reads a target image line by line, which comprises a holder section for holding the scanner, a first pattern provided adjacent to a target reading line to be read by the scanner when the reading line direction of the scanner held is correctly adjusted, and a second pattern provided adjacent to the target reading line on the side opposite to the first pattern with the target reading line positioned therebetween, the second pattern being different from the first pattern in the brightness of at least one of hues which can be read by the scanner or in the width thereof in the reading line direction.
Abstract:
An optical writing device that writes electrostatic latent images on an image carrier by irradiating and scanning the image carrier with an optical beam includes an optical element, a support housing configured to support members constituting the optical writing device, a pair of optical-element holding members opposing each other in a principal scanning direction and arranged in the support housing, and a displacing member configured to displace at least one of the pair of optical-element holding members relatively to the support housing on a plane perpendicular to the principal scanning direction. The optical-element holding member is made of a material having a coefficient of linear expansion smaller than that of the support housing.

Abstract:
Among various embodiments of the present disclosure, systems and methods for scan flow alignment are shown. A scan carriage can be aligned and used in a scan flow by selecting a scan starting location, determining a reference mark location, using the reference mark location as a coordinate system origin, moving the scan carriage from the coordinate system origin to the scan starting location, and performing a scan from the scan starting location to capture an image.
Abstract:
A contact image sensor fixing device for an office machine having a frame, a contact image sensor, and a white roller, the contact image sensor fixing device including an elastic unit mounted on the frame to push the contact image sensor against the whiter roller with a particular pressure, the contact image sensor reading data from a document as the document passes between the contact image sensor and the white roller; a holder unit to accommodate and support the contact image sensor; and at least one holder-movable unit freely moving the holder unit against the elastic force of the elastic unit applied to the contact image sensor to maintain an even pressure between the white roller and the contact image sensor when the contact image sensor receives a rotation force of the white roller.
Abstract:
An image reading and recording apparatus has: a carriage for mounting a recording head; a reading unit which reads an original document; a conveying roller arranged on a conveying path which is used in common for recording paper and the original; and a platen arranged so as to face the recording head. The reading unit is movable between a reading position on an upper side of the conveying path and a retracting position on a lower side of the conveying path. The platen can relatively and independently move for the reading unit.
