    摘要: In a process for producing a highly expanded polyolefin insulated coaxial cable comprising the steps of feeding a polyolefin, a nucleating agent and a volatile liquid as a blowing agent to an extruder and heat extruding said mixture through said extruder onto an inner conductor passing through said extruder to cover the outer periphery of said inner conductor thereby forming an insulation layer of a highly expanded polyolefin foam having a foaming ratio in excess of 2.5 times (60% expansion degree), the improvement which includes the step of, after extruding the foaming polyolefin mixture around said inner conductor, sizing the outer surface of said foaming polyolefin layer on said inner conductor by means of a sizing die to provide a highly expanded uniform polyolefin insulation layer of a predetermined size, said insulation layer being tightly adhered to said inner conductor.

    摘要: A process for producing a crosslinked and foamed resin sheet which comprises shaping a resinous mixture comprising a thermoplastic synthetic resin and a heat-decomposable blowing agent into a sheet form, applying a high-energy ionizing radiation to the resulting foamable resin sheet to crosslink the resin sheet, and then heating the resulting crosslinked foamable resin sheet to the decomposition temperature of the blowing agent or to a higher temperature; wherein the high-energy ionizing radiation has a range of at least 0.7 .rho.d g/cm.sup.2 in which d is the thickness in cm of the foamable resin sheet, and .rho. is the density in g/cm.sup.3 of the foamable resin sheet, and a low-energy ionizing radiation with a range of not more than 0.6 .rho.d g/cm.sup.2 in which d and .rho. are as defined is applied to the foamable resin sheet before, during or after the application of the high-energy ionizing radiation.

    摘要: The walls which form a packing container are made from an extruded polystyrene foam plastic material which is stiffened along variously positioned rectilinear zones in the surface by effecting an increase in thickness of the plastic along those zones. The foamed plastic material is initially of uniform thickness during formation of the container but those zones of the walls which are to be thickened have a higher cell density factor than the remaining portions of the walls and hence a higher latent expansion capacity which, after the container has been formed, is released by heating to such an extent that the cell walls soften and are expanded by the increased gas pressure within them. The foamed plastic packing material is formed by extrusion through a die and is of uniform thickness. The desired zones of higher density are established in the material by subjecting those zones to a cooling operation.

    摘要: Hollow fibers of acrylonitrile polymers having water-permeability greater than 0.2 ml/cm.sup.2.min.atm and useful as an inexpensive superior ultrafilter, comprising(1) a porous layer or layers existing on the outer or/and inner sides of said hollow fibers, the average sizes of pores contained in said porous layer or layers and existing on each of assumptive cylindrical surfaces concentric with the central axis of said hollow fibers, having such a gradient that the average sizes of pores contained in the porous layer existing on the outer side become smaller toward the outer surface of said hollow fibers while the average sizes of pores contained in the porous layer existing on the inner side become smaller toward the inner surface of said hollow fibers, and(2) a reticulate porous layer adjacent to said porous layer or layers (1) and containing therein at least one succession of voids having diameters of at least 10-50 .mu., are prepared by dissolving an acrylonitrile polymer in an aqueous solution of nitric acid of 65-95% by weight concentration and extruding the resulting spinning solution through a die for hollow fibers, into a coagulation bath containing water or an aqueous solution of nitric acid of 30% by weight or less concentration.

    摘要: Flexible polyurethane foams having low resistance to air flow and, in addition, having good load bearing characteristics and high strength comprising the reaction product of polyisocyanate, a polyol blend including about 40-60 percent by weight of a polyether triol having an average molecular weight of about 4500-6500 and about 60-40 percent by weight of a reinforced polymer polyol having an average molecular weight of about 4500-5500 for the base polyol, and a low molecular weight cross-linking agent, such as 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol or 4,4' methylene-bis (2-chloroaniline). Preferably the air flow characteristics are improved by crushing the reaction product before it is fully cured.

    摘要: Unitary molded plastic hinged article and method of making in which a fluid molten mixture of heat softenable resin and a blowing agent in substantially unfoamed condition is introduced into an expandable mold cavity to fill the cavity and the mold is expanded to allow foaming of the resin to form at least one foam cored article section while the resin adjacent the mold surface is still fluid and in which the hinge structure is formed by a member adapted to form a thin, flex portion and portions transitional from the thickness of the flex portion to the thickness of a cored article section, the shaping member being slidably disposed in an aperture in the mold with portions of the walls of the aperture exposed within the mold cavity at the time the molten mixture is introduced and the exposed portions of the walls being wiped by the shaping member when the mold is expanded. Cooling of the mixture by the mold prevents development of blowing gas for expansion of the resin adjacent the mold and shaping member to provide an unfoamed surface for the article and an unfoamed flex portion of the hinge structure with a progressive increase in central foam in the transitional portions from the flex portion to the cored article sections.
