Abstract: An apparatus provides a water bottle mouthpiece attachment which can filter microplastics and other contaminant substances from bottles, particularly disposable plastic water bottles. The filter of the apparatus includes a filter housing that is attached to a cap that fits inside a common plastic bottle. Soft rubber rings, tapering from to radially larger on the top to radially smaller on the bottom in a generally conical fashion, ensure a watertight fit to the inside opening of any drinking bottle. A friction closing/opening spout at the top of the filter enables selective opening of the bottle and prevents accidental spillage of bottle contents. The filter housing is also offset from the center, giving space to an air valve that allows air to enter the bottle without disturbing the flow of water from the bottle, thus providing optimal lamellar flow without allowing fluid to escape through the air valve during consumption.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of driving a ballast water treatment system. The ballast water treatment system includes an air compressor for compressing air, an air receiver tank for storing the compressed air, an oxygen generator for generating oxygen from the air, an oxygen receiver tank for storing the oxygen, an ozone generator for generating ozone from the oxygen, a ballast water pump for pumping ballast water, an inflow line for transferring the ballast water, an ozone injector for injecting the ozone into the inflow line, and a destructor for purging the ozone. The driving method includes a step of pressing a stop button to stop the ballast water treatment system, a step of purging ozone generated in the ozone generator, and a step of stopping each device of the ballast water treatment system.

Abstract: A waste management system, primarily intended to be for waste floating in water, though it can also be used on land. A shredding device will reduce the size of the particles of waste. Ocean water is removed by a drying device. The dried waste material is cryogenically frozen using liquid nitrogen or other suitable means. The frozen waste material is then pulverized and ground into a powder. The powder may then be sprayed into a gas-filled chamber and heated. Temperature, pressure and humidity are maintained within the chamber for more than one minute. Microwave or other radiation and catalysts may be used to enhance the process of extraction. The processed material is then removed from the chamber. Carbon and water may be recycled. The carbon may be used as fuel by the ship. Water may also be used by the ship or returned to the ocean in a non-toxic condition.

Abstract: Glycine is an organic compound that can be used in the making of a synthetic base that obviates all the drawbacks of strong bases such as sodium hydroxide. The new compound is made by dissolving glycine in water and adding calcium hydroxide at a molar ration of about 1:1. Next, sodium percarbonate is dissolved in the solution to produce the new compound, which can be referred to as glycine hydroxide.

Abstract: A capacitive-deionization-type nutritive salt removal system and method uses capacitive deionization (CDI) to remove nutritive salts that cause eutrophication of water due to a water-bloom phenomenon in water held by a dam or a weir. The system includes an intake pump configured to take in the water; a first nutritive salt filtration unit configured to use capacitive deionization to primarily filter out nutritive salts from the taken-in water; a second nutritive salt filtration unit configured to use capacitive deionization to secondarily filter out nutritive salts from the primarily filtered water; and a nutritive salt storage tank configured to collect and store nutritive salts filtered through the second nutritive salt filtration unit. When one filter train is operating the first or second nutritive salt filtration unit, another filter train is subjected to automatic cleaning in a standby state.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a method may include reducing the microbial load in contaminated water of water recycle loops. These water recycling loops may include pulp and paper mills, cooling towers and water loops, evaporation ponds, feedstock processing systems and/or non-potable water systems. The methods may include providing a peracetate oxidant solution. The peracetate solution may include peracetate anions and a peracid. In some embodiments, the peracetate solution may include a pH from about pH 10 to about pH 12. In some embodiments, the peracetate solution has a molar ratio of peracetate anions to peracid ranging from about 60:1 to about 6000:1. In some embodiments, the peracetate solution has a molar ratio of peracetate to hydrogen peroxide of greater than about 16:1. The peracetate solution may provide bleaching, sanitizing and/or disinfection of contaminated water and surfaces. The peracetate oxidant solution may provide enhanced separation of microbes from contaminated water.
