Abstract: Described herein is a detector for determining a position of an object. The detector includes a sensor element having a matrix of optical sensors, each designed to generate a sensor signal in response to an illumination of its light-sensitive area by a light beam propagating from the object to the detector. The detector also includes an evaluation device configured to select a region of interest of the matrix, respectively determine a sensor signal of at least two optical sensors of the region of interest, and determine a longitudinal coordinate zDPR of the object by evaluating a combined sensor signal Q. The evaluation device is also configured to determine an image of the region of interest from the sensor signals, determine a longitudinal coordinate zDFD of the object by optimizing at least one blurring function fa, and determine combined distance information z considering the longitudinal coordinates zDPR and zDFD.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for inspecting object using a plurality of interlacing radiation energies. The system comprising a radiation module configured for producing and capturing radiation in multiple energy levels to scan the content of the cargo and converting the captured radiation into a plurality of images; and a controller configured for signalling the radiation module to start or to stop producing radiation and for controlling the energy level and pulse frequency of the radiation produced by the radiation module. The system further comprising a processor configured for determining whether the cargo contains any contraband or not by analysing the plurality of images, classifying the cargo based on types of materials and substance groups and highlighting region on an analysed image of the same substance by bounding perimeter of the object within a material-colour image for the material.

Abstract: Systems and methods for adaptively determining a region of interest (ROI) are disclosed herein. An example device includes an imaging assembly and a controller. The imaging assembly captures image data comprising pixel data from a plurality of pixels. The controller calculates a contrast value for each pixel of the plurality of pixels, generates a histogram of contrast values, calculates an area under the curve of the histogram, and determines a contrast value threshold to delineate between high-contrast value pixels and low-contrast value pixels. The controller also identifies a ROI within the image data by locating a region within the image data that (i) satisfies a pre-determined size threshold and (ii) contains a largest number of high-contrast value pixels relative to all other regions that satisfy the pre-determined size threshold, and adjusts imaging parameters of the imaging assembly based on the ROI to capture at least one subsequent image.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for determining an intent to speak based on minute facial skin movements. In one implementation, a system may include a processor configured to control at least one coherent light source to illuminate a region of a face. The processor may receive from at least one sensor, reflection signals indicative of coherent light reflected from the face. The reflection signals may be analyzed to determine minute facial skin movements associated with silent speech. Then, based on the determined minute facial skin movements associated with the silent speech, the processor may determine a speech intent, and initiate, prior to an audible utterance of the silent speech, an action based on the determined speech intent.

Abstract: A method for detecting lost image information via a lighting device and an optical sensor. The lighting device and the optical sensor are controlled so as to be chronologically aligned with each other. A visible spacing region in an observation region of the optical sensor is determined from the chronological alignment of the control of the lighting device and the optical sensor. A recording of the observation region with the optical sensor is generated via the aligned control. Image information is identified in the recording in regions outside of the spacing region visible in the image, so as to make the identified image information accessible.
