    摘要: A method and apparatus for establishing a set of cells used to support a soft handoff. The apparatus is used in a wireless communication system including a plurality of cells and at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) having at least one beam antenna which is configured to transition between a switch beam mode and an omni-directional beam mode. The WTRU communicates with a serving cell while the beam antenna is in the switch beam mode. The WTRU performs measurements on cells neighboring the serving cell to determine measurement results associated with the cells. The WTRU then determines whether each of the measurement results exceeds a predetermined threshold. A set of cells associated with the measurement results that exceed the predetermined threshold is established. If the number of cells in the set reaches a predetermined number, the beam antenna transitions from the switch beam mode to the omni-directional beam mode.

    摘要: An apparatus and a method for transmitting control information in a mobile communication system are disclosed. In a mobile communication system including a transmitter for transmitting data and a receiver for receiving the data, when transmitting information regarding whether the data have been received, the receiver generates identifiers having different signs according to whether received data contain an error, adds the generated identifiers to a physical channel, and transmits the physical channel. The transmitter detects a sign corresponding to an existence or absence of an error from the information regarding whether or not the data have been received, detects transmission error for the data according to the detected sign, and determines whether the data are retransmitted according to a result of the detection.

    摘要: A method of obtaining optimum RF performance for a slave base station when co-siting a master base station with said slave base station involves calculating operating characteristics of the slave base station that is sharing an antenna assembly with the master base station. The third order intercept (IP3) and the noise figure (NF) characteristics of the slave base station are calculated and plotted versus a range of upfront gain values. The plots are studied and compared against vendor specifications and standalone performance characteristics. A desired upfront gain value is then selected to achieve a particular IP3 and NF characteristic for the slave base station. Upon selection, the upfront gain supplied to the slave base station is adjusted via an attenuator placed in-line before the slave base station to match the desired upfront gain.

The collectors forward these reverse channel signals including the data bits and corresponding processed confidence metrics to aggregators. The aggregators combine the multiple collector signals for the same user received from the macro-diverse collectors. The combining of multiple collector signals for the same user results in an output bit stream for the user with fewer bit errors.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for multiplexing time-shared base stations between a plurality of radio communication systems in a cellular communication system. Each radio communication system in the cellular system is assigned a limited unique set of frequencies for communication therein. Base stations in the cellular system are synchronized to a common time base and frequency reuse is achieved by time-sharing the frequencies via allocated time slots. Base stations activated to communicate in a first radio communication system and using the same frequencies that may interfere with each other are activated in the first system only during selected time intervals while same-frequency base stations nearby are deactivated in the first system. The deactivated base stations are then in turn activated in the first system while previously activated same-frequency base stations nearby are deactivated. Enhanced base station efficiency is achieved using the present inventive method by activating the time sharing base stations to communicate in one or more additional radio communication systems during periods when the base stations are deactivated in the first system. The radio communication systems can use differing numbers of assigned frequencies having differing time slot durations. The transmission periods used by each system may be mutually exclusive, or may overlap.

    摘要: A cellular communications system that includes forward channel communications to users and corresponding reverse channel communications from mobile users. The users travel from one area to another area over one or more zones. The forward channel communications are broadcast directly to users in a broadcaster zone. The reverse channel communications from users are not returned directly but are first collected at locations arrayed over the broadcaster zone. After collection, the reverse channel communications are forwarded to complete the full duplex communications. The forward channel communications are point to multipoint while the the reverse channel communications are multipoint to point. The communication system separately handles the point to multipoint forward path as a direct broadcast and the multipoint to point reverse path using multiple collection points. Since the forward and reverse paths are separately configured, the present invention optimizes both the forward and reverse paths.
