The invention relates to a method for detecting the vibrations of a roll stand (1) equipped with a hydraulic jack (6) as a device for adjusting the rolling rolls (4, 5). The hydraulic jack comprises a sensor (64) for measuring the position of the mobile portion relative to the fixed portion, this sensor supplying a digital signal (POS). In the method of the invention, the vibrations are detected by direct observation of the position signal (POS) and a comparison thereof relative to a spatio-temporal window (F) whose dimensions are determined as a function of the frequency to be detected. In accordance with the invention, it is possible to define different observation windows (F) suitable for the detection of different vibratory phenomena. In a tandem mill, the position signal (POS) of the hydraulic jack (6) of each roll stand (1) is observed in accordance with the method of the invention, which enables the commencement of vibration on each of the stands to be detected and the stand on which the phenomenon started to be determined.

A process for planishing under traction a thin metal strip in an installation including a planisher comprising at least one bending unit with two planishing sets and a multi-roller leveling assembly comprising two rows of rollers. The imbrication of the planishing sets and the multi-roller leveling assembly and two tension blocks, respectively, are adjusted upside and downside to obtain a prescribed elongation of the strip. Flatness faults in the planisher are corrected by adjusting the through-speeds and imbrication of the planishing sets, such that the prescribed elongation for planishing is substantially attained by the time the strip leaves the planisher. At least longitudinal camber faults due to the passage in the planisher are corrected in the multi-roller assembly by setting up degressive imbrications of the rollers between the input and output of the multi-roller assembly by swinging one row with respect to the other so as to cause progressively diminishing reverse bending effects without substantially increasing the elongation already produced in the planisher by traction-bending.

The frame of a mould comprises at least one rigid transverse structure element disposed in a zone which is substantially distant from the ends of the frame. The transverse element comprises two end parts between which are disposed support beams of the lateral moulding walls. Jacks each fixed on an end bearing part of the structure element are connected via their movable rod to the beam in zones which are distant from the longitudinal ends of the beam. The jacks make it possible to achieve both the displacement of the walls between their opening and closing positions and the clamping of the mould. Restriction of the clamping stresses is provided by the structure element. The bending moment of the beams remains low since the points of application of the stresses on the beams are distant from the ends of these beams and chosen as a function of the clamping conditions of the mould.
