Abstract:
A method of producing a substrate having a frosted appearance, an article having a frosted appearance and frost-imparting compositions are disclosed. The method includes applying a frost-imparting composition onto a ceramic substrate and firing the coated substrate above 400° C. to impart the frost appearance. The frost-imparting composition comprises a liquid vehicle, 20% to 90% by weight of glass frit particles and less than 10% by weight of at least one gas-releasing material, inactive below an activation temperature of at least 400° C. The gas releasing material may include carbonate, nitrate, iodate, bromate, chlorate, fluoride, manganate, dimanganate and sulfate compounds. The firing temperature is chosen to be above the activation temperature of the gas-releasing material, above which the gas-releasing material yields gas bubbles and above a temperature that causes the glass frit particles to behave as a viscous liquid.

A liquid etching composition comprising: (a) at least one etching agent precursor having an activation temperature of at least 400° C., at which temperature said precursor yields an active agent suitable for chemical etching of glass, said precursor present at a concentration of at least 2.5% w/w; (b) a binder; and (c) a liquid vehicle.
Abstract:
A printing system including a substrate support and an ink deposition unit. The ink distribution unit deposits liquid ink onto a substrate positioned on the substrate support. The system allows for relative movement between the substrate support and the ink deposition unit. After printing, the ink deposition unit rotates to be oriented with the longitudinal axis of the next image segment to be printed and wherein the rotation does not affect the image resolution. The system can print at least two axial images sharing at least one common image portion and having an angle between their longitudinal axes less than 90 degrees.
Abstract:
A system for printing on glass boards is provided. The system includes a horizontal support for a glass board, a ink-jet printing head supported by a bridge and moveable above the horizontal support, an ink supply system to provide glass-based ink having solid glass particles to the ink-jet printing head and a primary ink fixation system . The primary ink fixation system is configured to fixate an image printed onto the glass board prior to shifting the printed glass board to a furnace for a firing process.

Disclosed is an inkjet ink that is jettable through standard inkjet nozzles, yet creates a non-abrasive non-porous three-dimensional glass structure on a 1-100 micron-scale without the need for additional processes beyond those normally used for the inkjet decoration of glass substrates. Such an inkjet ink can avoid the drawbacks noted above and is described herein.

A method and system for printing on glass boards is provided. The method may include jetting, from an inkjet printing system onto a glass board, a glass-based ink having solid glass particles to form a printed glass board; heating the glass board prior to jetting the glass-based ink; heating the glass board after jetting to fix the ink onto the glass board; conveying the printed glass board to a furnace; and firing the printed glass board in the furnace at temperature of no less than 550.degree. C. to melt the solid glass particles onto the glass board and complete fixation of the glass-based ink.

Liquid compositions for etching glass are disclosed herein. The liquid composition may include a non-active etching agent precursor that is inactive with respect to chemically etching glass in an amount of at least 2.5% by weight of the total composition, a binder and a liquid vehicle. The precursor may include an alkali metal salt having an activation temperature of at least 400° C. and when heated to above the activation temperature, the precursor yields an active etching agent suitable for chemical etching of glass.
