摘要： The method of forming a book, magazine, newspaper or the like from at least first and second signatures comprises the steps of printing the first signatures and delivering the first signatures from the printing press in an overlapped shingled stream. Segments of that shingled stream are placed on a support and are releasably clamped in a stable condition on the support. The support with the signatures clamped thereon is transported and stored remote from the printing press. The signatures are then removed from storage while clamped on the support. The signatures are then unclamped and unloaded from the support and the signatures are fed in a shingled stream to a first hopper of a collating machine. The second signatures are printed and the second signatures are fed toward a second hopper of the collating machine while the first signatures are delivered to the first hopper of the collating machine, and the first and second signatures are then collated in the machine by operation thereof. Preferably, the signatures, when they are stored, are stored in a shingled relationship on the support and all folded edges of the signatures lie in one plane on the support.

摘要： An improved static eliminator is provided for neutralizing accumulated electric static charge on a web or sheet material. The static eliminator includes an elongated cable of the type having an inner conductive core surrounded by a dielectric layer with the core being adapted to be connected to a high AC voltage source. A portion of the length of the cable extends longitudinally within an elongated hollow metal housing. An insulator is located within the housing and is constructed so as to mount the cable in place within the housing while minimizing electrical capacitance between the core and the housing.

摘要： A video display system is disclosed for use in fitting advertising copy or other text matter in a desired final layout prior to typesetting. The original text is read into a video display terminal from a tape reader, for display on a CRT screen. Changes in the size, location and other parameters of the displayed text are made by typing characters and instructions from a keyboard and control panel at the terminal. The layout instructions and text data are encoded in digital format, modified by computer processing programs in accordance with the layout instructions, and the modified data drives character generating and position logic units for displaying the updated layout on the screen. The layout instructions, in the form of parameter messages, are displayed in an area or field adjacent to the text on the screen. Changes in any portion of the text are initiated by directing a test cursor or a parameter cursor to the appropriate element of text or the associated parameter message to be changed in the display, followed by keyboarding or keying in the desired changes. Following copy layout, the text and associated layout instructions are processed by the system into a format suitable for directly driving a photocomposing machine, and outputted to paper tape, magnetic tape or an electrical connection to a computer system.

摘要： P and N channel MOS''s, MOS capacitors, and PNP and NPN transistor devices are fabricated in isolated single crystal P and N type regions by a series of four deposition-diffusions common to both types of devices. The bases of PNP''s and the sources and drains of N channel MOS''s are formed simultaneously while the bases of NPN''s, and the sources and drains of P channel MOS''s, are also formed simultaneously. Thirdly, the emitters and collector contacts and guard rings of PNP''s, the base contacts for NPN''s, and the body contacts and guard rings for N channel MOS''s are simultaneously formed. Finally, an N+ type diffusion is performed to form the emitters and collector contacts of NPN''s, the source and drain contacts for N channel MOS''s, the base contacts for PNP''s, the body contacts for P channel MOS''s and one plate of MOS capacitors. An additional step may be performed to obtain thin gate oxide MOS''s and thin dielectric MOS capacitors. By surrounding the N channel MOS''s drain with a combination of the P+ guard ring and the gate metal, this device will function in the depletion mode.

摘要： Control of ink supply in a printing press in accordance with sensing of the density of ink being printed on imprint-receiving material, wherein sensing measurements are made and smoothed by considering previous printing press cycles and wherein the smoothed measurement is compared to a desired predetermined standard density and the ink feed is adjusted accordingly. Erratic density measurements are automatically identified and disregarded. Interaction between adjacent ink adjustment keys of the ink feed mechanism is automatically taken into account, and lift-off of keys from an ink fountain blade of the mechanism is prevented. Proportional, derivative, and integral control signals are produced and combined to provide a composite control signal for the ink feed. The invention may be implemented by analog or digital embodiments.

摘要： A sheet fed multi-unit metal decorating press in which a pair of printing units with diverging cylinder stacks are arranged backto-back so that sheets pass directly from unit to unit with the forward edge of a sheet entering the nip of the second unit before the rear edge of the sheet passes from the nip of the first unit. The second unit is mounted for roll-back movement relative to the first unit to facilitate make-ready and clean-up operations on the first unit. A registration adjusting mechanism is provided to shift the entire second unit relative to the first for final precise adjustment of the second unit image to the first unit image. Registry of the sheets as they pass from the first unit to the second is maintained by a transfer guide unit positioned between the two units and which directs the sheets in a generally horizontal path from one unit to the next. The guide unit defines a controlled locus over which the sheets pass and is operative to confine the sheets to the desired locus by placing a controlled bend in the sheets.
