    摘要: A machine for driving spikes into the ties of a railroad track includes a spike driving assembly movably disposed relative to a frame for gripping spikes and driving gripped spikes into the ties, the spike driving assembly having a spike pushing function and a spike percussive function. In the pushing function the spike driving assembly pushes the spike a specified distance into the tie by the application of constant pressure, and in the percussive function the driving assembly percussively completes the driving of the spike into the tie. An operator may selectively alternate between the pushing and percussive functions.

    摘要: A subscription television distribution system provides a plurality of sources of television program channels, each of which include a video signal and an encrypted audio signal with the encrypted audio signal including encrypted control and subscriber address data. There is a communication link connecting the plurality of sources with at least one receiving site such as a cable system head end which has means for receiving the plurality of television channels. At the receiving site, the encrypted audio signals are separated from the television channel and are multiplexed together on an non-television channel carrier. An identifying tag is added to each of the video signals for use in subsequently selecting the audio signal corresponding to its associated video signal when the encrypted audio signals are demultiplexed at subscriber locations. At each subscriber there is a TV audio decrypter which selects the tag from a video signal and uses that tag to demultiplex a particular audio signal. The audio signal is then decrypted and is combined with the video signal to provide program information for the subscriber.

    摘要: A method of controlling the operation of slave decoders in a cable television distribution system having a central control computer; in which each subscriber location having a slave decoder also has a master decoder; in which there is a control message connection between each master decoder and its associated slave decoder(s); and in which the central control computer can individually address each master decoder and each slave decoder. The method includes the steps of transmitting control messages for the slave decoders at the control message frequency for the master decoders. In response thereto, each master decoder will retransmit the control message to its associated slave decoders. Periodically, the central control computer sends deauthorize messages addressed to all slave decoders as a group; however, the deauthorization messages are preceded by an inhibit message addressed to all master decoders, thereby preventing the retransmission of the slave decoder deauthorization message to all slave decoders which are connected to a master decoder.

    摘要: An auxiliary bearing for use in a keyboard to prevent binding of keys having irregularly-shaped keycaps. The irregular keycap is mounted on a plunger which reciprocates in a main switch housing. The switch housing is attached to the keyboard. The keycap also has a coupler attached to its underside. The coupler engages a bearing in the form of a sleeve which supports the coupler along a portion of its length sufficient to preclude the coupler from tilting in the sleeve. The bearing member is mounted on an auxiliary housing which in turn is attached to the keyboard. The connection of the bearing to the auxiliary housing permits the bearing to shift laterally on the housing to permit alignment of the coupler and sleeve despite variations in the auxiliary housing location and the keycap location. But the bearing is prevented from tilting or skewing in the auxiliary housing by a set of cooperating hooks on the housing and bearing.

Further, the group enciphering key may be changed at one or more subscribers or new groups may be formed among subscribers by communicating to the subscribers in one or more group enciphering keys.

    摘要: This invention relates to an arrangement for attaching discrete electrical components to a generally flat layer of sheet material. Both mechanical and electrical connections are provided by the attachment elements of the present invention. One form of the invention is directed to a membrane switch keyboard wherein one of the layers of the membrane switch has a tail extending therefrom. The tail has a free end which is adhesively secured to some portion of the keyboard. Conductive traces are formed on the tail and extend to the free end where they contact the leads of an electrical component. The component is held between the tail and the keyboard. In another aspect, which may be applied to the membrane switch keyboard just described, the invention includes a sheet material having two or more slits cut therein for each of the component's leads. The slits are cut in a portion of the sheet having conductive traces formed thereon. The leads of the component are then interlaced through the tabs created by the slits to both mechanically and electrically connect the component to the sheet.

    摘要: A converter/decoder for use in subscription television includes means for converting any input TV channel to a predetermined output channel. Decoding means are connected to the converter at its output for decoding the selected output channel. The decoder is enabled in response to data carried on the TV signal which describes the program level of the particular selected channel. The means for enabling the decoder includes a comparison circuit which compares the television signal program level data with authorization data and performs an enabling function when there is correspondence between the two data entries. The authorization data may be received by the converter/decoder simultaneously with the program level data, but at a frequency other than that of the television signal, for example, at a frequency in the FM band.
