摘要: A method for mapping a lymphatic system following a cavity generating procedure, may include a step of providing a post-biopsy cavity treatment implant, the implant including a collagenous matrix having a non-uniform cross-linking density that is configured to cause the implant to swell non-uniformly when placed within an aqueous environment, the implant including a dye or a pigment contained therein. The provided post-biopsy cavity treatment implant may then be implanted into the cavity and the cavity closed. The dye/pigment may then be caused to be released from the implant and to propagate through the lymphatic system. The propagated dye/pigment may then be visualized in the lymphatic system using a selected visualization mode.

摘要: An excisional biopsy device includes a tubular member having a window near a distal tip thereof; a cutting tool, a distal end of the cutting tool being attached near the distal tip of the tubular member, at least a distal portion of the cutting tool being configured to selectively bow out of the window and to retract within the window; and a tissue collection device externally attached at least to the tubular member, the tissue collection device collecting tissue excised by the cutting tool as the biopsy device is rotated and the cutting tool is bowed. An excision al biopsy method for soft tissue includes the steps of inserting a generally tubular member into the tissue, the tubular member including a cutting tool adapted to selectively bow away from the tubular member and an external tissue collection device near a distal tip of the tubular member; rotating the tubular member; selectively varying a degree of bowing of the cutting tool; collecting tissue severed by the cutting tool in the tissue collection device; and retracting the tubular member from the soft tissue. The tubular member may include an imaging transducer and the method may include the step of displaying information received from the transducer on a display device and the step of varying the degree of bowing of the cutting tool based upon the displayed information from the imaging transducer. Alternatively, the imaging transducer may be disposed within a removable transducer core adapted to fit within the tubular member.

摘要: A method of removing breast tissue may include a step of providing a tissue cutting device having an elongate cutting element coupled to a shaft, in which the cutting element is movable between a bowed position and a retracted position. A deployed part of the cutting element may lie outside the shaft when in the bowed position, and the deployed part of the cutting element may have a cutting side which penetrates the tissue as the shaft is rotated. The tissue cutting device may be introduced into the breast and a power source may be coupled to the elongate cutting element. The elongate cutting element may be moved to the bowed position so that the deployed part of the cutting element lies outside the shaft. Energy may be prevented from being transmitted from a portion of the deployed part of the cutting element for cutting to the tissue while the elongate cutting element is in the bowed position. The cutting device may be rotated so that the cutting side of the bowed cutting element penetrates the breast tissue to cut the breast tissue for removal.

摘要: The present short-term post surgical cavity treatment device includes a first portion including an inflatable balloon at the distal end of the device and a second portion coupled to the first portion that defines at least an inflation lumen and a treatment lumen. The second portion may be configured such that the inflation lumen enables inflation of the inflatable balloon. An inflation port may be coupled to the inflation lumen to enable introduction of a fluid or gas into the inflatable balloon. The second portion of the present device may be configured such that the treatment lumen enables various short-term cavity treatments, therapies and methods within the cavity in conjunction with the inflatable balloon. The balloon may be configured so as to inflate in a predetermined shape. This predetermined shape may be configured so as to substantially match the shape of the cavity within the tissue. The inflatable balloon may also be configured, treated, coated or otherwise configured so as to carry out a beneficial function on the tissue walls defining the post surgical cavity.
