    Abstract: A localization apparatus including a hollow localization wire and an internal wire. The hollow localization wire has a securing feature configured to secure the hollow localization wire in place relative to target tissue. The internal wire is disposed in the hollow localization wire. A distal end of the internal wire protruding from the hollow localization wire is configured to emit a signal permitting the target tissue to be located.

    Abstract: An examination marker for use in diagnostic imaging using microwaves. The examination marker includes a marker main body to be attached to an examination target. The marker main body is capable of displaying, on the marker main body, an index for use in scanning the examination target marker and is deformable following the shape of the examination target. The marker main body has a relative permittivity of 10 or less to microwaves at a frequency of 1 GHz.

    Abstract: A method for marking a biopsy site after a biopsy has been performed includes the steps of placing a marker in the form of a semi-permeable membrane at the biopsy site so that the marker can be found at a later time, inserting a needle into the marker at the later time which is preferably immediately before a planned surgical resection of the biopsy site, and injecting a dye directly into the marker to color the marker. The semi-permeable qualities of the marker facilitate the slow egress of dye into tissue that is immediately adjacent the marker, enlarging the footprint of the marker. The semi-permeable membrane includes a high percentage of water after reaching osmotic equilibrium, rendering the marker highly visible under ultrasound imaging. The semi-permeable membrane may take the form of a fully or partially dehydrated hydrogel.

    Abstract: A template grid which attaches to an ultrasound stepper of a transrectal ultrasound unit providing transperineal guidance and support through adjustable angle apertures allowing for accurate targeting of a medical implant such as a needle to its intended target such as for purposes of perirectal spacer placement. The rotational apertures allow for free adjustable changes in the trajectory of a medial implant such as a needle to its intended target while providing stability and support to the medical implant itself. The template grid, in addition, contains fixed apertures for placement of a medical implant such as a needle into the substance of the prostate gland positioned to avoid inadvertent passage through the urethra and rectum.
