    摘要: Disclosed is a process for preparing organo-sulfonium halide of the formula ##STR1## wherein X is an halide, R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of: alkyl having 1 to 24 carbon atoms, inclusive; allyl having 2 to 24 carbon atoms, inclusive; alkenyl having 2 to 24 carbon atoms, inclusive; alkynyl having 2 to 24 carbon atoms, inclusive; aryl having 6 to 24 carbon atoms, inclusive; and wherein said alkyl, allyl, alkenyl, alkynyl and aryl are optionally substituted with a group that is inert to organo-sulfides comprising: reacting an alcohol, e.g. methanol, with an halide derivative which when reacted with an organo-sulfide forms an organo-sulfonium halide, e.g., thionyl halide, sulfuryl halide and carbonyl halide; and then adding an organo-sulfide, e.g., dimethyl sulfide, to the above reaction mixture with agitation while allowing the gas formed to be eliminated so that the organo-sulfonium halide, e.g., trimethyl sulfonium halide, is formed. This process can take place in the presence of an insert solvent, e.g., methylene chloride.

    摘要: A process for converting organic hydroxyl-containing compounds to halides which comprises reacting the hydroxyl-containing compound with a phosphorushalide reagent of formula: R.sub.n PX.sub.5-n wherein n is selected from 1, 2 and 3; R is selected from the group consisting of C-6 to C-10 aryl and substituted aryl wherein the substituents are selected from the group consisting of straight and branched chain alkyl, alkoxy, and haloalkyl, halogen, sulfonate and mixtures thereof; and X is a halogen. It is preferred to carry out the reaction in the presence of an arylphosphorusoxydihalide solvent. The use of an arylphosphorustetrahalide and particularly phenylphosphorustetrachloride is preferred. The arylphoshorustetrahalide can be prepared in situ by contacting a solution of the corresponding arylphosphorusdihalide in an arylphosphorusoxydihalide solvent with a halogen. The process can further comprise the step of heating the reaction mixture. Maintaining a reaction temperature of from about 0.degree. C. to about 150.degree. C. for from about 1 hour to about 24 hours is preferred.

    摘要: Herbicidally active thiolcarbamates are employed in combination with certain organophosphorus compounds having the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.4 is selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, and C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylthio, R.sup.5 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, R.sup.6 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, and C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 alkoxyalkyl, R.sup.7 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and methyl and R.sup.8 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and methylthio. As a result, the herbicidal effectiveness of the thiocarbamate is enhanced and prolonged, rendering a single application of the herbicide effective over a longer period of time.

    摘要: A catalytic component for polymerization of an .alpha.-olefin is prepared by allowing an organo-magnesium compound expressed by the generic formula of RMgX (wherein R represents a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms and X a halogen atom or a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms) to react with carbon tetrahalide in the presence of an electron donor compound to obtain a solid product; by treating the solid product with phenols at 90.degree. to 180.degree. C.; and by further treating the phenol treated solid with a halogenated titanium compound. Homo- or co-polymerization of an .alpha.-olefin is carried out in the presence of a catalyst composition consisting of the catalytic component thus prepared and an organo-aluminum compound.
