    摘要: A bi-directional flow auxiliary heat exchanger is disposed in proximity to the outdoor heat exchanger of a heat pump. The auxiliary fin and tube coil is active in both the heating and cooling modes to subcool refrigerant fluid flowing from the condenser. During operation of the heat pump system in the cooling mode, the entire auxiliary coil is used for subcooling; however, a portion of the subcooler is bypassed during heating mode operation to reduce the effective size of the subcooler. The bypassed portion of the auxiliary coil is used for storing excess refrigerant charge. This arrangement provides the system with the optimum amount of subcooling in each mode of operation, and adjusts the refrigerant charge for optimum performance in both the heating and cooling modes.

    摘要: Apparatus for unloading a scroll compressor to modulate its capacity by separately controlling fluid flow into first and second inlets. The first and second inlets are disposed diametrically opposite each other in a fixed scroll plate, and are enclosed by a perimeter wrap which extends from the radially outer end of the fixed spiral shaped wrap element. A compliant sealing member is provided between the inner surface of the perimeter wrap and the outer flank surface of the orbiting scroll wrap to interrupt fluid flow between the two inlets through this area. Valves connected to the first and second inlets selectively control the flow of suction fluid into fluid pockets being formed between the radially outer ends of the orbiting and fixed wrap elements to unload the compressor over an extended range of its rated output capacity.

The oil is collected in a chamber of a housing around the bottom of the crankshaft, flows through a channel of an end plate and is transmitted upwardly in a bore of the crankshaft. Entrained gases are vented from each inlet hole to a common annular ring, and through a vent from the annular ring upwardly in the crankshaft.

    摘要: A multi-cylinder reciprocating compressor is disclosed which is provided with an unloader valve for blocking the flow of suction gas to at least one of the cylinders to reduce the compressor capacity. The unloader valve is disposed at one end of a cylinder bank and comprises an unloader piston and an unloader port which is an integral part of the cylinder bank. A chamber in which the unloader piston and unloader port are located is formed in the cylinder bank with its axial center in parallel alignment with the axial center of all the cylinders in that bank. This improved efficiency, facilitates ease of manufacture, and reduces associated costs.

    摘要: A heat transfer surface for boiling liquid refrigerant 11 and its equivalents and method for producing the surface. The surface comprises a porous, open-cell coating at least 15 mils thick, of oxidized metallic particles which are flame-sprayed onto a metal substrate. This surface includes a substantial number of nucleate boiling cavities having an equivalent radius in the range of 1.5 to 4 mils, which are the result of one or more of the following conditions in the flame-spraying process: (1) The flame-spraying nozzle is oriented so that the metallic particles impact the metal substrate at an angle in the range of 30.degree. to 75.degree.; (2) The metal substrate is preheated to a temperature which is at least 600.degree. F., but below the melting point of the substrate; and (3) The flame-spraying apparatus is positioned such that the metallic particles travel from 3 to 6 inches before impacting the substrate. These conditions create a porous coating with substantially more nucleate boiling cavities of the required size for boiling liquid R-11 than the flame-spraying process disclosed in the prior art.

Control means selectively energize the first and second motors, and are operative to energize the one motor long enough to bring the other motor up to operating speed.

    摘要: An oil-water emulsifier comprises a Venturi member having an inlet for receiving oil, an oil-water emulsion outlet and an opening extending therethrough from the inlet to the outlet. The opening of the Venturi member comprises a diameter-reducing portion which connects to a throat portion having a substantially smaller diameter than the inlet, the throat portion being connected to an expanding portion extending from the throat to the outlet, the diameter of the outlet of the opening being substantially greater than that of the throat portion. A plurality of water injection holes extend from the outer periphery of the Venturi member to the throat portion so as to be in communication with the oil flowing through the throat portion, the injection holes being preferably substantially perpendicular to the direction of oil flow through the throat portion. Also disposed is an oil-burner boiler system incorporating the above-described oil-water emulsifier.

Two tubular members are provided, each of which are formed in a loop oriented transverse to the fluid flow and each having a plurality of spaced-apart orifices along their length. In one of the tubular members, the orifices face upstream toward the impinging fluid flow; in the other, the orifices face downstream. The difference between the pressures developed within the two tubular members as a result of the orientation of these orifices relative to fluid flow is indicative of the average rate of fluid flow in the duct.

    摘要: A control and method for defrosting the outdoor heat exchanger of an air source heat pump. A defrost cycle is initiated when ice and frost have accumulated on the outdoor heat exchanger sufficiently such that, as a function of the indoor temperature of a comfort zone, the maximum permissible heat transfer degradation at which the efficiency and reliability of the temperature conditioning system are optimized, has occurred. Heat transfer degradation is determined from the outdoor ambient air temperature and the temperature of either the outdoor heat exchanger, or the compressor suction line. If the temperature of the outdoor heat exchanger or the suction line is less than a predetermined value, a deferred defrost cycle is initiated wherein the defrost cycle starts after a fixed time interval has elapsed.The defrost cycle is terminated when the relative temperatures of the outdoor heat exchanger and the outdoor ambient air indicate that sufficient frost is melted from the heat exchanger to insure adequate time between successive defrost cycles for optimizing the efficiency and reliability of the system, or after a predetermined time interval has elapsed, whichever condition occurs first.
