摘要:
A control system utilizable in conjunction with a conventional press having a reciprocating ram wherein the press is equipped with a bolster plate movable from a retracted loading position to an advanced position cooperable with the ram. The control system includes a mechanism which is manually controllable and which requires the operator''s hands to be in an out-of-the-way position both during the advance of the bolster plate and during the reciprocation of the ram. Failure to properly actuate the control mechanism results in the automatic retraction of the bolster plate and the rendering of the ram inoperable.

Automatic control over variable work performing means of a sewing machine, such control being exercised during the operation of the machine to produce a seam or line of stitching. In a specific form of the invention, such control brings about an automatic change in the length of stitches being produced in the course of providing a line of stitching on successive work pieces delivered to the machine. This preferably brings about the automatic production of shorter stitches at the beginning and at the end of a line of stitching, so as to minimize the unraveling of the thread at the ends of a seam. The automatic control is in response to light projecting means and a pair of light sensitive devices, the work pieces, as they are moved in the course of forming a seam thereon, serving to cut-off delivery of light from said projecting means to one or another or both of said light sensitive means. Such control is exercised through fluid operated power means.

This disclosure relates to a thread control mechanism for sewing machines which will permit the machine operator to adjust the tightness of the stitch in accordance with the requirements of the particular work being sewn. The needle thread control mechanism includes a bracket plate which is conveniently mountable on a conventional sewing machine frame and which has mounted thereon an eyelet assembly for movement along a predetermined path and selected positioning thereof along such path so as to vary the extent of a thread loop which is formed between a thread tensioning device and the needle lever thread eyelet of the sewing machine, thereby controlling the tightness of the stitch being formed.

This disclosure relates to a top feed mechanism for an overedge sewing machine in which a top feed dog is articulately mounted upon a top feed bar to which feed and lift motions are transmitted by eccentrics. The top feed dog is carried by a pivotally mounted arm which is in turn connected to a slidably mounted rod above and generally in the plane of the top feed bar. Biasing means normally urge the rod in a direction tending to move the feed dog toward its fabric engaging position. Cam means carried by a rotatable plate are provided for moving the rod against the biasing force of the spring to pivot the arm and the feed dog carried thereby to an out-of-the-way position. Lifting motion is imparted to the top feed bar and a main feed bar by eccentrics which are generally 180* out of phase whereby the feed dogs move toward each other to grip fabric therebetween during the feed cycle and move away from each other to release fabric incident to the return cycle of the mechanism.

A multiple needle felling machine including a main feed bar and a differential feed bar connected, respectively, to a main feed dog and a differential feed dog each having several rows of teeth with one row being higher than the other rows and the teeth on the respective feed dogs facing in opposite directions. A multiple-section presser foot cooperates with the feed dogs and includes a spring-loaded yielding section to clamp the thread chain to insure nonskipping at the start of sewing operations.

This disclosure relates to a shirring attachment for sewing machines equipped with differential feeding mechanisms, and includes a bracket pivotally carrying an arm which in turn carries a shirring blade, the arm and bracket having cooperative abutment means for locating the arm in operative and inoperative positions thereof, and biasing means for positively though releasably maintaining the abutment means in contacting engagement in both positions of the arm. The shirring blade is pivotally journaled to the arm for rotation of about a horizontal aXis, and cam and cam follower means are provided for automatically pivoting the shirring blade to an inoperative position upon the pivoting movement of the arm to its inoperative position.
