Abstract:
A method for operation of a battery consumption analysis server communicatively coupled to a plurality of mobile devices over radio channels to receive packages of data recorded at each mobile device containing application use, and battery charging and discharging events. By receiving independent sets of information from the mobile device wherein independent sets comprise at least one of wireless phone activities and battery use, combining this information in such a way that the battery consumption or over consumption of specific applications are identified, the apparatus and method configures a display to identify the correspondingly bad applications to a user.
Abstract:
A method estimates resource consumption between applications within and among a population of wireless mobile devices. Aggregating and analyzing samples for each member of the population of devices provides comparable individual results. Subsequently aggregating and analyzing only summary information for each member of the population of devices provides cluster, crowd, and global comparisons. An apparatus determines out of norm behavior of an individual within a crowd, or relative differences between two crowds.
Abstract:
Disclosed are methods and devices for a social networking device 102. The methods include calculating a value for a social networking index 460 for contacts in a contact list 103, and prioritizing a subset of contacts 462. IP addresses of contacts retrieved 468 from the Internet according to the social networking index can be preloaded 470 for the initiation of an IP based communication 474. The social networking index is generated from values of predetermined statistics 130 associated with contacts of the contact list. The statistics associated with contacts of a contact list include 464 a number of communications with a contact, a statistical value calculated from lengths of communications with a contact, a time since a last communication with a contact and a statistical value calculated from times between at least two consecutive communications with a contact. Calculating a social networking index 460 can include applying weights 466 with which to combine the values of the predetermined statistics.
Abstract:
A system communicatively couples a server to a plurality of mobile wireless device clients to receive and track customer care related information which has been captured on any one of the clients. The server uses information sent by a client to initiate a customer care request ticket and responds to the client request with a ticket number and request description compiled using the information from the client.
Abstract:
A CDMA communication system supports designated mode data bursts and contention-based transmissions on a reverse link common channel from a subscriber unit to a base station. When transmissions are scheduled and serviced in the designated mode data burst, collisions are avoided. The number of slots consumed in the designated mode data bursts depend upon the volume of data the subscriber unit has to transmit to the base station. A common power control channel provides power control bits and reservation indications for at least one reverse link common channel for closed loop reverse link power control on the common channels.

Abstract:
This concurrent packet data session set-up for Push-to-talk over Cellular (PoC) services decreases the connection set-up time for a PoC call by using processes that are circuit-switched-based to locate and page a called communication device, and to initiate traffic and packet data session set-ups for the called communication device. A method for setting up a packet data session between an originating communication device (211) and a called communication device (215) includes the steps of: requesting a called-device active packet data session set-up for the called communication device (messages 271, 272, 273, 274, 275) and initiating an originating-device active packet data session set-up for the originating communication device (messages 271, 222, 224). The first step can use circuit-switched-based messages and processes to locate the called communication device and set up a traffic channel for the called communication device. After an active packet data session (263) is set-up for the originating communication device (211), the originating-device active packet data session (263) can be used to request a PoC voice channel (message 290). Because a called-device active packet data session set-up has already been requested, the called communication device (215) can respond to the PoC voice channel request quickly (message 293).

Abstract:
A CDMA communication system supports underlay transmissions and direct spread overlay transmissions such that the overlay transmissions are at least partially orthogonal to underlay transmissions. A base station supports both the underlay transmissions and the overlay transmissions and includes an interface to a mobile switching center, an underlay unit, an overlay unit and at least one radio frequency (RF) unit. The interface receives communications intended for a plurality of mobile stations serviced by the base station. These communications include underlay communications intended for mobile stations (MSs) supporting underlay transmissions and overlay communications intended for MSs supporting overlay transmissions. The underlay unit receives the underlay portion of the communications and produces underlay transmissions. The overlay unit receives the overlay portion of the communications and produces overlay transmissions. Then, the underlay transmissions and the overlay transmissions are received by the at least one RF unit and transmitted via at least one antenna to the plurality of MSs. Each of the MSs receives both the underlay transmissions and the overlay transmissions. However, those MSs supporting the underlay transmissions extract intended underlay communications while the MSs supporting overlay transmissions extract intended overlay communications. The underlay unit and the overlay unit produce the overlay transmissions such that they are at least partially orthogonal to the underlay transmissions. A synchronization unit coupled to the underlay unit and the overlay unit that causes the overlay transmissions to be substantially synchronized with the underlay transmissions. In another construction, differing base stations provide the underlay transmissions and the overlay transmissions.
Abstract:
In a receiver of a simulcast multi-carrier CDMA (code division multiple access) communications system, a combined data signal is produced by combining signals representing data received for the plurality of carriers and is multiplied by the complex conjugate of a composite reference signal, representing characteristics of the plurality of carriers, produced by combining signals representing a reference signal received for the plurality of carriers, thereby improving multi-path resolution due to frequency diversity of the reference signal over the multiple carriers of the system. The receiver can be simplified by demodulating the signals of the plurality of carriers in common to produce a demodulated signal which is common to the data and reference signals for the plurality of carriers, the data and reference signals being subsequently separated using their respective orthogonal codes. Data signals can be recovered both with and without the improved multi-path resolution over the multiple carriers, and an optimum selection between them can be made.
