    摘要: A method for forming the grooves in single and multigroove sheet metal pulleys, including shaping and/or crimping of the groove walls, wherein the grooves are formed by a sequential, single step, continuous process from a punched or drawn blank without intermediate handling and/or displacement of the blank using both axial and radial pressures, wherein the applied radial pressures or forces are substantially less than and applied axial pressures or forces. The pulley may have grooves of the same or different pitch and of the same or different diameter. Apparatus for forming a sheet metal pulley from a hat- or cupshaped blank having an outwardly extending flange. The apparatus includes a die having a seat upon which the blank rests, and a seal between the seat and flange. A fluid conduit conducting fluid to the interior of the blank. Pumps and valves providing a predetermined and adjustable pressure and volume of fluid within the blank during formation of a pulley. Segmented forming dies, reciprocable laterally of and relative to the blank, engaging the flange of the blank on the side remote from the seal to effect the seal and defining the pulley groove remote from the hub. An axial ram moving continuously during formation of the pulley, exerting an axial pressure and force on the blank, and crimping the wall of the pulley groove nearest the hub into a double wall. In apparatus for forming multigroove pulleys, the segmented forming dies carry and provide guiding means for vertical movement of intermediate forming dies, which are displaced vertically toward the flange by engagement by and with the ram.

    摘要: A multiple groove sheave in which a hub is formed with a plurality of axially spaced, radially extending, annular surfaces of different diameters, and a plurality of generally plate-like annular members with peripheral belt grooves therein secured to the annular surfaces in axially aligned relationship. The hub is preferably a sheet metal stamping and the grooved members are preferably formed by splitting the peripheral edge and parting the flanges formed by the split to provide the belt grooves. A method involving the steps of forming the hub and grooved members and securing the two parts together is also part of the broader concept of the disclosure.

    摘要: A machine for forming pulleys from a disc shaped metal blank in which the blank is clamped between two rotating backer blocks and one or more tool means are used to split the periphery of the disc shaped blank and to press the flanges formed by the split laterally to form a belt groove. Each backer block contains an annular resilient member adjacent the periphery on the surface facing the opposite backer block. The resilient members permit the pulleys to be formed from material having wide tolerances with respect to material thickness without changing the critical dimensions on the belt groove or resulting in eccentric or wobbly pulley structures.

    摘要: A loading and unloading apparatus for use with a sheave fabricating machine having a spindle mechanism for rotating a disc shaped blank, in which a turret means is used to place a stack of blanks in position for delivery to the spindle mechanism and a feeding mechanism having a head thereon with a magnet is adapted to carry a blank from the stack to the spindle mechanism and to remove a sheave from the spindle mechanism and discharge it from the machine. The turret mechanism has a plurality of stations, permitting one station to be loaded while the blanks of another station are being fed into the spindle machine. A mechanism is included for lifting the stack of blanks at the feeding position to place the uppermost blank in position for being carried into the machine.
