    摘要: A machine can form a work piece into a bowl subcomponent of a steel pan musical instrument. The machine includes a pressure lid and a die mold. The die mold may be formed of non-metal layers stacked between metal layers. In example operation, a blank or work piece is inserted between the lid and die mold. The lid is pressed down (e.g., by a hydraulic ram), forcing a portion of the blank into a face groove of the die mold for sealing. Pressurized water or other fluid introduced between the lid and the blank exerts pressure on the sealed portion of the blank and stretches the blank to conform to a bowl shape of the die mold. Note regions can be introduced by this machine-performed shaping and/or by subsequent manual operations to further prepare the work piece for incorporation into a steel pan musical instrument.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for forming contoured work pieces from a flat sheet metal stock includes a die block having a cavity into a planar surface of the die block, and a pressure chamber, the die block and pressure chamber relatively reciprocable to clamp the flat sheet metal stock. The pressure chamber is flow connected to a hydraulic cylinder via a spring loaded ball valve. A reciprocating plunger rod is connected to a hydraulic actuator and positioned to be thrust into the volume of the hydraulic cylinder to increase the pressure within the hydraulic cylinder which in turn opens the ball valve, and by hydraulic pressure, deforms the flat workpiece into the die cavity. An apparatus is described which can include three operational stations, a first station for a punch deformation of the flat workpiece to effectively stretch the workpiece within an area, a hydraulic forming operation for using hydraulic pressure to deform the flat workpiece into a die cavity, and finally a punch cutting station for separating the thus formed workpiece from the otherwise flat sheet metal. The three operational stations are activated by a single stroke of a hydraulic cylinder and the metal sheet is indexed continuously through the three stations.

    摘要: A means of and method of forming sheet metal by use of fluid pressure wherein an initially flat sheet metal work piece is placed on a backing plate with its margins clamped between the plate and a peripheral clamping ring. The clamping ring is clamped against the margin of the work piece by a plurality of fluid operated clamping units. the side of the work piece opposite from the backing plate and within the clamping ring is free to expand or distend without restraint except that provided by the metal comprising the work piece itself. Pressure fluid is introduced between the metal work piece and its backing plate to cause the work piece to distend away from the backing plate. A set of freely movable feeler strips engage the edge of the work piece at spaced points. The feeler strips control sensing units which, in turn, control the pressure exerted by the clamping units so as to permit predetermined slippage of the margin of the work piece with respect to the clamping rings.If the dimensions of the work piece are critical and the undulated zone of the work piece is within the boundaries of the finished product, the work piece is placed on the same or second backing plate so that the margins of the work piece are between the backing plate and a clamping ring of predetermined increased internal dimension to clear the periphery of the distended portion of the work piece. A forming die overlies and clears the distended work piece and is joined at its periphery to the clamping ring. After removing air from the distended work piece, pressure fluid is applied to further distend the work piece, eliminating the undulations and presses the work piece into conformity with the die while its margin is clamped against slippage.One embodiment of the means and method includes a valve sensitive to the pressure of the pressure fluid for varying the pressure in the clamp units in proportion to the change in pressure required to form the work piece as the work piece changes its shape.Another embodiment utilizes a deformable membrane, which may be a second work piece, in place of the backing plate. A further embodiment involves the sandwiching of the part to be formed between sheets of expendable sheets. A still further embodiment includes the use of pressure fluid, heated or cooled to temperatures at which the forming of the metal is enhanced.

    摘要: A method for forming the grooves in single and multigroove sheet metal pulleys, including shaping and/or crimping of the groove walls, wherein the grooves are formed by a sequential, single step, continuous process from a punched or drawn blank without intermediate handling and/or displacement of the blank using both axial and radial pressures, wherein the applied radial pressures or forces are substantially less than and applied axial pressures or forces. The pulley may have grooves of the same or different pitch and of the same or different diameter. Apparatus for forming a sheet metal pulley from a hat- or cupshaped blank having an outwardly extending flange. The apparatus includes a die having a seat upon which the blank rests, and a seal between the seat and flange. A fluid conduit conducting fluid to the interior of the blank. Pumps and valves providing a predetermined and adjustable pressure and volume of fluid within the blank during formation of a pulley. Segmented forming dies, reciprocable laterally of and relative to the blank, engaging the flange of the blank on the side remote from the seal to effect the seal and defining the pulley groove remote from the hub. An axial ram moving continuously during formation of the pulley, exerting an axial pressure and force on the blank, and crimping the wall of the pulley groove nearest the hub into a double wall. In apparatus for forming multigroove pulleys, the segmented forming dies carry and provide guiding means for vertical movement of intermediate forming dies, which are displaced vertically toward the flange by engagement by and with the ram.

In an embodiment, the method includes the following steps: placing a metal sheet blank to be formed on a forming mold; introducing high-pressure gases with equal pressures simultaneously into upper and lower enclosed cavities respectively formed by the metal sheet blank and the sealing mold, and the metal sheet blank and the forming mold; heating the metal sheet blank to a preset forming temperature condition; quickly releasing the high-pressure gas from the cavity formed by the metal sheet blank and the forming mold, such that the metal sheet blank bulges; and discharging the gas from the cavity formed by the metal sheet blank and the sealing mold, and opening the mold to obtain a formed metal sheet part.
