    摘要: Apparatus and methods for reducing the likelihood of damage to wire leads of undulated coils for dynamo-electric machine stators are provided. The invention provides a rotating winding head equipped with a coil former that has a wire gripper and an initial wire lead slot. The gripper retains the initial wire lead. The slot permits the initial wire lead to be fed to the gripper from a stationary wire source. The gripper maintains the initial wire lead in a predetermined plane of the coil and can secure the initial wire lead in the plane in which the final lead wire will eventually be disposed. The gripper also rotates the initial wire lead into radial alignment with a lobe of the undulated coil. Once installed in a stator, the initial and final wire leads can both be disposed along the outer radius of the coil and are thus protected from interference with a rotor that is destined to rotate within the stator.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus for replacing an old wire threaded through a flyer winder with a new wire are provided. A first end of the old wire is connected to a first end of the new wire. The wires may be connected by twining, clamping, welding or the like. A second end of the old wire that extends from one of the winder's flyers is then connected to a collection device, and the old wire is collected until the new wire has been threaded through the flyer winder along the same path traveled by the old wire. The collection device may be an armature or similar structure having recesses for collecting the old wire during wire change-over or replacement. Preferably the collection device is configured so that conventional coil lead connection operations may be used to expedite wire change-over or replacement.

    摘要: Hollow cylindrical dynamo-electric machine stator cores may be made by superimposing at least two strips of core material to produce a composite strip. One or more of the strips may be run through a pressure roller structure prior to super-positioning of the strips. The one or more strips may contain internal apertures. The composite strip is coiled helically to produce the hollow cylindrical stator core. By pressure rolling at least one strip, the internal diameter of the stator core can be adjusted to reduce irregularities. By superimposing strips prior to coiling, thinner strips can be used without requiring the stator forming machine to operate longer or faster to produce stator cores of a given size, even though thinner strip material is being used. By using strips that contain internal apertures, unwanted deformations can be reduced. The pressure rolling aspects of the invention and the strips that may contain internal apertures are also applicable to coiling apparatus that uses only a single strip. Stator cores may also be made by coaxially assembling and joining two coils with a hollow annular lamination disposed between the two axially spaced coils.

The seat portion of the rail structure has a central surface and two opposing surfaces. The dimensions of the seat portion and the rail structure are such that when the seat portion fits over the rail structure a pallet will be prevented from falling off the rail structure.

Some stators are designed with poles having pole tips that extend relatively far in a peripheral direction, perhaps reaching nearly half way across the stator core. When the pole tips reach so far around the stator core and thus leave little room between opposing pole tips, it may be difficult to use winding technologies with needles that need to move between opposing pole tips. Therefore, stators may be divided into segments for the winding of each pole, and then reassembled to form a complete stator. The segments are wound by rotating the segment and a wire guide structure about an axis, while providing wire to the rotating apparatus from a wire source.

Each coil holder is cantilevered from the terminal board at the ends of a pair of slots, and a wire guide is positioned on each coil holder. A wire depositing needle and the stator are placed in relative motion, which causes the guide to support the wire as it is transported along its surface. Coils of wire are created as each pair of slots is wound. The invention will typically be used to form multiple coil windings on a single stator.

    摘要: An apparatus for forming varied length wire coils for insertion into stator core slots includes a template positioned that is configured to vary a length of consecutive wire turns while wire is received from a flyer winder. The wire turns may then be inserted into a pair of stator core slots depending upon their respective lengths. A method of using the apparatus to form a winding with varied length turns includes depositing wire turns on a template, varying a length of at least two consecutive wire turns as the wire is deposited on the template, removing the wire turns from the template, and inserting the removed wire turns into stator core slots.
