摘要: An apparatus and method for deterministically communicating data between multiple nodes in a fashion that is consistent with the Controller Area Network ("CAN") communications protocol. The system applies to multiple nodes that functional blocks within an operating system environment and to multiple nodes that are each connected to a serial bus. The system utilizes standard CAN error checking, bus arbitration and message formatting and therefore uses standard CAN controllers and transceivers. One node on the bus is selected as the master node. The master node issues a periodic synchronization signal which defines time divisions within which the operations of each node and communications over the CAN bus are organized. Data, particularly real-time data, is transmitted between nodes on the CAN bus during a known time division. Standard CAN bus arbitration is used to ensure that real-time data is transmitted over the CAN bus prior to the transmission of non-real-time data. This ensures that real-time data is, if appropriate, transmitted during each time division.

摘要: A memory protection system in a multi-tasking system for preventing a currently running application from writing data to a memory segment storing data for a second application. The memory protection system transmits m upper address defining a memory segment of the currently running application to the memory from a memory register. The memory protection system detects when a currently running application generates an invalid address and disables the data operation to prevent the corruption of data in a memory segment storing data for the currently running application. The system verifies that the m upper address bits in the memory register after the application is completed are equal to m upper address bits of the memory segment of the completed application.

摘要: Apparatus and accompanying methods for a custody transfer metering system, that illustratively utilizes a dual tube Coriolis mass flow rate meter and provides accurate totalized mass flow measurements and fault detection capability, are described. Specifically, this apparatus senses time differences occurring in the movement of both flow tubes. Four such time difference measurements are taken and combined in a pre-defined manner so as to eliminate differences appearing in the electrical characteristics of analog circuitry connected to each of two sensors used to detect tube movement and thereby to advantageously increase measurement accuracy. Mass flow rate of the fluid passing through the meter is determined, as a function of the combined time measurements, in terms of normalized mass and time units and thereafter converted into user specified mass units/unit time. The resulting converted value is used to compute totalized mass flow and to set and/or update various system outputs. Thereafter, the converted value is multiplied by an appropriate time factor to provide mass flow rate in terms of user specified mass and time units. By use of normalized calculations, processing time is advantageously saved and the number of unit conversions is advantageously reduced which, in turn, increases system accuracy. A sequence of diagnostic tests is continually performed to detect a variety of fault conditions and appropriately alert the user and inhibit further totalization.

摘要: A system for detecting tampering in a signal conditioner of electronics that determines a parameter from signals received from one or more sensors is provided. The system includes a host system that receives the parameter signals from the signal conditioner indicating properties of a material and supplies power to the signal conditioner. The signal conditioner is remote from and coupled to said host system. The signal conditioner generates the parameter signals. The host system is configured to periodically transmit a request for said authentication information to said signal conditioner, receive said authentication information from said signal conditioner in response to said request, compare said authentication information with initial authentication information, and detect said tampering condition in said signal conditioner if said authentication information is not equal to said initial authentication information.

摘要: An electronic signal processor for substantially eliminating timing errors in determining the time difference between two periodic analog signals which uses switches that allow one of the two signals to be connected to one channel for digitizing that signal and the other signal to be connected to a second channel, then the switches, after about a cycle, reverse the connections. The measured time differences over two cycles are then added or subtracted to substantially eliminate timing errors caused by variations in the operational characteristics of electronic components in the signal processor.

摘要: A terminal block for connecting intrinsically safe rated circuits and increased safety rated circuits. The terminal block includes a housing that forms an enclosed area. A first surface at a first end of the housing has openings through the surface. A first set of conductors for connecting intrinsically safe rated circuits has terminals in the enclosed area and extend through the openings. A second set of conductors for connecting increased safety rated circuits has terminals in the enclosed area and extend through the openings. A wall on the first surface separates said terminals of the first set of conductors from the terminals of the second set of conductors. Finally, a cover over the second set of conductors extends from a top side of the wall substantially to a side of the housing to enclose the second set of conductors inside the enclosed area to allow the housing to be opened.

摘要: Apparatus and accompanying methods are disclosed herein for use in a Coriolis mass flow rate meter for producing an "absolute" frequency output. This method is illustratively implemented within a microcontroller through use of various software steps, two internal timers and one external gate. The frequency signal present on this output advantageously contains a number of pulses having an approximate 50% duty cycle over a relatively wide dynamic range wherein the number of such pulses occurring during any timing interval is proportional to the measured mass flow rate but without substantially any extraneous pulses that would otherwise occur due to nested interrupt processing. As such, use of such a frequency output advantageously ensures that internally and externally maintained totalized mass flow values will not substantially diverge, if at all, over time.
